Do you mix high fantasy and sci-fi?

I mix science and magic. Some places in my Homebrew heavily utilize science while others use magic and yet others tend to mix the two to varying degrees.

DMG to include a "starter town".

I have no strong opinion either way as to having a starter town being good or bad in the 4e DMG. I guess I'll have to wait and see how it's implemented. As far as which iconic, the Keep and Hommlet both popped into my mind right off the bat. I skipped the second page of the topic, so I'm...

    You're Playing Cards Wrong!

It's been my experience that people tend to house rule a lot with Rummy (sp?) and Gin Rummy.

    "Hey look, a distraction!"

I run games with my friends and our collective teenage offspring (who outnumber the adults by one to three depending on attendance). The game sidetracks with lots of distracting conversation quite frequently. Usually I or one of my friends will speak up to get the focus back to the game. Some...

How do you prefer to earn/award XPs?

I don't run any D20 style games as a GM, so my response on how I prefer to award XP is a little bit skewed due to system differences. I personally prefer to award XP based upon completion of goals, where the amount of the award is greater based upon the amount of physical danger the PC's found...

The night, what we lack in this modern world.

I have excellent night vision. I find I can navigate better in area's of darkness without a flashlight than with one (such as when camping). With the exception of a heavily overcast sky. I imagine Light Pollution has something to do with my seeing so well in the dark.

New ways to generate ability scores.

I've never messed around with point buy. I like the fixed array, because all characters are balanced in the sense they have all have the same range of stat values and bonuses. From there it's just a matter of how the stats are assigned to apply the bonuses to meet the characters needs. It may...

    a wizard says what?

At one time I played around with adding up the values of the spell slots per day and turned them into spell points, where the level of a spell dictated how many spell points were necessary to cast a spell. If a caster had a spell in their spell book they could cast the spell, if they had the...

What Edition of D&D was your First (with fixed Poll)

I started with Moldvay's Basic booklet (not set the entire set, I bought just the rulebook from a friend) in '81. Got the PHB, DMG & MM for christmas of '83. Picked up 2nd Ed, in '89-91 while in the Army. Got the core books for 3e as released. I'll buy the 4e core books to add to my edition...

New ways to generate ability scores.

How about assigning fixed values of: 18, 16, 14, 12, 11 & 10. Each character will have three stats with a bonus (+3, +2 & +1 IIRC) and three stats without a bonus.

If you play DnD, how old are you?

    I'm 26, in gaming years.

D&D 4E Sight unseen - what are your plans for 4E?

I'm in the something else category. I run games using a system I developed for my own play. I've been using it a few years prior to the release of D&D 3.0. Having said that, I'll do with 4E like I did with 3E, I'll buy the core books, look them over and a run a few sessions, just to see what...

Are your games continuous or episodic?

Mine are a bit of both. I plan them as being episodic, and what doesn't finish in one session picks up with the next. Although most of my episodes tend to flow together in a generally continous manner.

What Cool Things Should the Rules Let You Do?

Kill things and take their stuff! Sorry, couldn't resits that. If a character wants to perform some really cool sounding maneuver or other action not covered by a rule (or even if it is sometimes), I allow a check by using whatever stat I feel is appropriate to the situation. The way I...

    Why does D&D have bears?

The argument that these other worlds have the same animals as those of Earth for the purposes of familiarity and identification for players, makes complete sense. At the same time I agree with the OP, there is definately a lack of fantastic animals, that have also been domesticated by...

Every time I see IMO or IMHO, I will drown one of these kittens

IMO, you should havea just went ahead and drowned the kittens. Without having used the pretext of only by everyone else not using several peronally abhored abbreviations, is the only way the said kittens lives can be spared. I imagine said kittens have all been drowned by now. You didn't...

    DMs: Random Encounters?

I use random encounter tables that I've designed. That way the creatures on the table will be appropriate to the environment. And I pre-stat any creatures on said tables, for in the event a random encounter happens, all I have to do is roll to determine the creature(s) in question.

Best Five RPG Books You Own

    1. Basic Dungeons and Dragons rulebook (Mentzer edition)--one of the most comprehensive and complete game rulebooks I've ever read, considereing the small spell lists, low class levels and lack of information for playing in anything but a dungeon. Which were all expanded in later...

    Canned food recall - Botulism

When I was in Desert Storm (well technically it was still the Desert Shield operation), the Army was doing voluntary testing with a Botulism vaccine. Which is how I came to know that Botulism is a serious bacteria based food poisoning resulting from canned foods, I don't recall if we were told...

    Canned food recall - Botulism

For some reason she thought I knew about the recall already. Letting me eat it wouldn't have done her much good, my life insurance policy isn't all that great.
