    D&D 3.x [3.5] Alter Self

I never really liked the "create a race" aspect of the spell, that even shapechange can't duplicate. Now that's fixed, and it's still easy enough to find non-core races to mess with. This restriction also has significant benefits for PCs, btw. A casting Mind Flayer can't use alter self to...

    D&D 3.x [3.5] scorching ray?

I agree with Skaros - scorching ray is not worth a 3rd-level slot, and it's too much for a 1st-level slot. The fact that it eventually exceeds the 10 dice of damage that the rules for creating new spells would expect is slightly offset by the need for multiple attack rolls. What it sounds like...

D&D 3.x [3.5e] What's the most broken character under the new rules?

Actually, to be fair, as a DM I would rule that only the first ray fired would be allowed "precision" damage like sneak attack damage. This is the same way that the Manyshot feat is handled, and the ruling given to the various orb spells from Tome and Blood. So with that, damage is reduced to...

D&D 3.x [3.5e] What's the most broken character under the new rules?

Yes, it's a standard action, but like magic missile, scorching ray produces additional rays at higher caster levels, and the spell requires the caster to fire them all simultaneously. :)

    D&D 3.x [3.5] Alter Self

If you want gills, Locathah and Merfolk are both aquatic humanoids. If you want wings - no; nothing in MM. But the spell is significantly useful beyond those kinds of things, IMHO. :)

D&D 3.x [3.5e] What's the most broken character under the new rules?

You Know What? I'm Happy. Sor 1/Rog 9 using a wand of scorching ray at 11th caster level (market price 16,500gp). Against foes who are denied their Dex bonus against his attacks (probably because he's greatly invisible or blinking), he'll be making 3 ranged touch attacks each round, at his...

    D&D 3.x [3.5] Feinting & Uncanny Dodge

I don't see adding BAB to the target's Sense Motive check as unbalanced. That being said, this is yet another change to 3.5 that will give cause for my rogue to avoid being a primary damage dealer.

    D&D 3.x [3.5] Specialist wizards...

All Specialist Now Look the Same to Me Discounting variations for personality/alignment, here's what I'd give up as a specialist of each class (you could probably devise a personality test out of this kind of thing): Abjurer -- (3.0) Illusion -- (3.5) Illusion and Necromancy Conjurer --...

    Movement While Prone

Looks like the "All-in-One SRD Download" link hasn't been updated then, because that's what I downloaded.

    Movement While Prone

PHB p142; Move Actions, Move - Crawling "You can crawl 5 feet as a move action. Crawling incurs attacks of opportunity from any attackers who threaten you at any point of your crawl." And no, it's not in the SRD. (Nor is the fact that the SRD has been updated posted on the official D20 site.)...

D&D 3.x Does/should nondetection block detect magic? 3.5 update (kinda)

Of the 3.0 Universal spells, read magic, detect magic, and the symbols have been moved to appropriate schools. That leaves arcane mark, prestidigitation, permanency, limited wish, and wish as the last remaining Universal spells. I see all of these as "pure magic" effects that shouldn't be...

Blinking provides immunity to being grappled.

Anyone disagree with the following? George is blinking. Purple worm bites George and hits. Purple worm successfully grapples with improved grab. George is pulled into the purple worm's space. George blinks out. George blinks back in and gets shunted to the nearest empty space, taking damage...

Tongue of the Sun and Moon

The preposition "with" gives the meaning of two-way communication. If the intent had been to only allow others to understand the monk regardless of known languages, the wording would have been "speak to". That being said, I agree with the ruling that in order for the communication to be...

D&D 3.x Regenerate is useless in 3E. Why does it exist?

It's not like a cleric has to make any kind of agonizing decision about this kind of thing - they aren't wizards who only gain access to a very limited list of spells each level. Sure, no one's ever going to keep it memorized - but in those situations where its going to be needed (because of a...

    D&D 3.x [3.0 -> 3.5] Acid Fog to Zone of Truth

Spell Changes from 3.0 to 3.5 Please note: this list of changes was compiled against a first printing edition of PHB 3.0 without much consideration to subsequent errata published either in the second printing or other locations. Others can come along behind me and correct what hasn't actually...

Rant about (lack of) info in new 3.5 conversion guide

I started compiling a list of changes to spells last night. I made it through the Bigby's before going to bed at 4am. Not counting addition/removals to spell lists, well over half of all those spells had significant changes to them. :) I hope to have the list completed sometime next month at...
