Spell Changes from 3.0 to 3.5

Please note: this list of changes was compiled against a first printing edition of PHB 3.0 without much consideration to subsequent errata published either in the second printing or other locations. Others can come along behind me and correct what hasn't actually changed. ;)

This list is in no way official or sanctioned. The author takes no responsibility for mistakes made in the creation of this list.

Acid Fog
" Radius dropped from 30 ft. to 20 ft.
Acid Splash
" New spell added to Sor/Wiz 0 - read for details.
Aid
" Temporary hit points increased from 1d8 to 1d8 plus 1/level, capped at +10.
Air Walk
" Added to Drd 4.

Animal Friendship

Animal Messenger

Animal Shapes

" Total HD limit of created undead increased to 2 times caster level from 1 times.
" Control limit increased to 4 HD per level from 2 HD per level.

Animate Objects

" Targets 1 size Small object per level, or equivalent larger items; no longer a function of cubic feet.

Antimagic Field
" No functional change, but an unneeded paragraph was cut, and wording elsewhere slightly modified to account for that cut.
Antipathy
" Made dismissable.
Antiplant Shell

Arcane Eye
" Given the Scrying sub-school.
" Made dismissable.
" Clarified that the eye can be created at any point you can see, but can then travel outside your line of sight without hindrance.
" The eye is not permitted to enter another plane of existence, even through a gate or similar magical portal.
" Several explanations relevant to all spells of the Scrying sub-school have been removed from the spell's description - read Chapter 10 for details.
Arcane Lock
" No functional changes.
Arcane Mark
" The 6 inch height restriction has been removed.
Arcane Sight

Astral Projection
" Target now specifies additional "willing" creatures.
Atonement
" Clarification that "though the spell description refers to evil acts, atonement can also be used on any creature that has performed acts against its alignment, whether those acts are evil, good, chaotic, or lawful."
Augury
" Added material component of incense worth at least 25 gp.
" Base chance of success caps at 90% at 20th caster level.
Awaken
" Awakened animals become magical beasts (augmented animals) and can't serve as animal companions, familiars, or a special mount.
Baleful Polymorph
" New spell added to Drd5 and Sor/Wiz 5 - read for details.
Bane
" Now has the [Fear] descriptor.
Banishment
" Banishment's focus component is now optional.
Barkskin
" Added to Rgr 2.
" Now grants an enhancement bonus to natural armor instead of raw natural armor.
" Bonus starts at +2 instead of +3, and increases by 1 for every 3 caster levels above 3rd to a maximum bonus of +5.
" Clarification that a creature without natural armor really has a natural armor bonus of +0, so is still eligible for this enhancement bonus to natural armor.
Bear's Endurance
" Renamed from endurance.
" Added to Drd 2 and Rgr 2.
" Duration decreased to 1 min./level from 1hour/level.
" Allows saving throw: Will negates (harmless)
" Now provides a flat +4 enhancement bonus.

Bear's Endurance, Mass
" New spell added to Clr 6, Drd 6, Sor/Wiz 6.
" Works like bear's endurance, but affects 1 creature/level at close range, no two of which can be more than 30 ft. apart.
Bestow Curse
" Changed to Necromancy from Transmutation.

Bigby's Clenched Fist
" Now has the [Force] descriptor.
" Directing the spell to a new target is now a move action.
" Damage was fixed to 1d8+11 from 1d8+12.
" Can also interpose itself as Bigby's interposing hand, or bull rush an opponent as Bigby's forceful hand, but at a +15 bonus on the Strength check.

Cloudkill
" Effect reduced to a 20 ft. radius spread from a 30 ft. radius spread.
" Spell resistance no longer applies to cloudkill.
" Now deals 1d4 Con damage rather than 1d10 poison damage to creatures who are not killed outright by the spell. A fortitude save applies each time the damage is taken to reduce it to half.
Colorspray
