    D&D 3.x [3.5] What About Absolute Darkness

The more things change...the more they change. If a mod wants to edit the poll to include an "I wouldn't add it" option, I'm not going to object. :) It's interesting how changes like this will impact play. Some of the most interesting combats I've been in (both from a DM's and a player's...

    D&D 3.x [3.5] What About Absolute Darkness

Since darkness (2nd-level) and deeper darkness (3rd-level) now only generate an area of "shadowy illumination", granting concealment to anyone in that area, what level would you make an absolute darkness spell that duplicated the old 3.0 version of darkness?

(DRAGON) 3.5 DM screen = very nice

Wasted space... I like the screen, except for one thing - too much non-informational junk on it. Why is 20% of the screen across the bottom filled with random B&W pictures of D&D minis? How is this useful to me as a DM?

    D&D 3.x [3.5] 5-Foot Step Rules Expanded

Huh, check that out. I wonder how many times I could have killed players in the past couple years if I'd known that. :) Still, it's nice to have the formal definition out there.

    D&D 3.x [3.5] 5-Foot Step Rules Expanded

Where does it say that you can? :) 3.0 PHB page 130: Additionally, the 3.0 PHB glossary says: I can't find any definition or example that permits a 5-foot step in a case where the character takes a full round of actions that isn't defined as a "full-round action." Maybe this was always...

    D&D 3.x [3.5] 5-Foot Step Rules Expanded

Here's a change I really like: The example that really makes the implications stand out is: Whee!

[3.5] Dawn of the Touch-Attack specialist?

Fastest Growing Damage Spell I like this change. At 1d6 per level (capped at 5th), it's now the fastest growing damage spell in a wiz/sorc's arsenal until they get fireball or lightning bolt, making it a very viable option.

    I didn't get my 3.5 books today.

Mine are sitting in a UPS warehouse about 5 miles down the road. :( I sure hope my boss doesn't expect me to be productive tomorrow. :)

    Random Point-Buy?

The more recent group used a straight 32-point buy. My original campaign experimented with something like 3d8, reroll anything over 18. That was a mistake. :) Actually one of the biggest problems I have with point-buy systems is not that people cram all of their points into one really good...

    Random Point-Buy?

In both of the games I run, I'm letting players fully reallocate their characters (actually, I'm enforcing it). There are a variety of reasons I want to do this, and one of them includes correcting the overpowered stats I let them have in the early days before we fully understood just how much...

Caster Level and Magic Item Creation

No errata, because there was no mistake. I'll repeat here what I stated in another thread: At GenCon last year during the D&D Q&A, it was stated that caster level is not, and never has been a prerequisite for item creation, which is why caster level is listed independently (read as...

[3.5] Errata/FAQ not included? Confirm or deny.

It's not errata, it's reader confusion. At GenCon last year during the D&D Q&A, it was stated that caster level is not, and never has been a prerequisite for item creation, which is why caster level is listed independently (read as "in-front-of and seperated by a semi-colon") of the...

    D&D 3.x 3.5 Monks and Shields

All About the Proficiency For the sake of argument, here's the exact text (from the SRD): First, it is clear to me that the monk is not wearing the armor when utilizing an animated shield. That said, I think the relative clause here is, "as if the character were using it". To me that says...

[3.5] Cohorts no longer gobble up party XP

DM Judgement There's a reason that Leadership is in the DMG and not part of the core player rules. If the DM feels that her players are going to abuse the system, she doesn't allow it. If she feels that they aren't going to abuse it, she does. For me, this rule is perfect for one of the...

The Physics of Darkness (was Shadows of Illumination)

So many side effects... Isn't it? What is it then? Something is being radiated. Something that "counters or dispels any light spell of equal or lower level". Sounds like anti-light to me. The spell description is pretty clear, but the spell information is incomplete. The spell description...

    D&D 3.x I like 3.5!

Me too! In no particular order, I like that: 1) things are being scaled back; 2) things are being looked at as a whole; 3) rules were written with battle mats in mind; 4) core classes are being given long-term viability; 5) ease of use "out of the book" is improving 6) important info...

The Physics of Darkness (was Shadows of Illumination)

Since a darkness spell radiates darkness, does it throw "shadows" when obstructed by objects? Or is the darkness considered to spread like a fireball? One or the other is implied by the fact that a darkness radiating object can be suppressed by enclosing it in a light-proof container...

    D&D 3.x 3.5 Magic Item changes

Weapon Special Abilities Thanks for the info on the wounding ability. Besides this and the change to Bane being a +1 modifier, are there any other significant changes to weapon special abilites? Edit: And on a side note, after reading the change to hiding rules, what does it say about the...
