    The PDF Review Project

I'm currently trying to finish with a review of Unorthodox Monks for Crothian, but once that's up in the next day or so, I'd certainly be interested in reviewing The Ironics. Cheers, Vurt

Why do 3E clerics get such good press?

I hate to be the one to break it to you, but Righteous Might has been errata'd to only give +4 to Str and +2 to Con. And the DR/evil goes up by 3's instead of 5's. Vurt

    StarCluster RPG

Starcluster 2 Starcluster 2 (PDF) By Albert Bailey and Clash Bowley Published by Flying Mice LLC Pages: 287 Disclaimers: This is not a playtest review. I did not buy Starcluster 2, it was sent to me for review. Starcluster 2 is quite clearly a labour of love. The authors have crafted a...

Paladins with detect evil vs. fiends with mindshielding

I did say it was subtle. *GRIN* Cheers, Vurt

Paladins with detect evil vs. fiends with mindshielding

To be a touch more specific, what has me hung up is the following: That, and detect evil lists an "evil creature" as a separate category from "evil outsider", where presumably, "evil outsider" means something with the evil subtype. Cheers, Vurt

Paladins with detect evil vs. fiends with mindshielding

A paladin walks into a bar, and detects evil. The serving wench is actually a succubus with a ring of mindshielding. Does the spell pick her up? (As opposed to the paladin picking her up, which is a whole, different ballgame!) I'm finding this quandry subtly complicated, but don't want to...

    Running an encounter with Stirges...

Also, if the stirges win initiative and go while their target is still flat-footed, they only provoke AoO if their target has Combat Reflexes. Cheers, Vurt

    Rogue Inquiry.

Well, adding it up, it looks like only 59 to me. And yes, Fighter/Rogues can dish it out while two-weapon fighting. Cheers, Vurt

    Karrnathi undead underpowered?

I thought CR 3 was too high for them at first as well. But the combination of high (22) AC and their natural damage reduction makes them pretty tough to take down. Add in that groups of them are able to perform tactically, and you've got some good opponents. Cheers, Vurt

More zaniness with Improved Natural Attack

I would interpret both claws to be one "attack form", as required by the feat description. That said, I would also interpret the rake attack to be a separate attack form. Cheers, Vurt

What are the biggest rules debates?

Here are some monk-related Q's that seem to come up from time to time... 1) What AC bonus does a non-monk with high Wisdom gain from a monk's belt? 2) Can you use flurry of blows while two-weapon fighting, and if so, how does it work? 3) Does a monk fighting with a longspear threaten with his...

    Pondering Gestalt -- advice?

I've been running gestalt games for a while now, using mostly published adventures. If there's a particularly interesting NPC for a climactic encounter, I'll stat them up as gestalt as well, but for the most part I leave them alone. Too much work makes the DM grumpy. I'm currently running the...

Does Barbarian rage end if Barb goes unconscious?

Well, I do know that I had tried, on several occasions, in my own childhood. And failed each and every time. But then maybe I didn't have the sheer determination of a five year old frustrated by their parents not giving in to their demands. ;) So quite possibly there's more to it than meets...

Does Barbarian rage end if Barb goes unconscious?

Breathing is a poor example. Your body has a specific mechanism to regulate breathing that is hard to overcome. If you were to try holding your breath, chances are your conscious decision would be overridden well before you passed out. A lot of these emotions flood the body system with...

    Identifying Monsters (a skill?)

Take another look at the Knowledge skill. Specifically, Knowledge (nature) would be used to identify animals, fey, giants, monstrous humanoids, plants, and vermin, Knowledge (arcana) would be used to identify dragons and magical beasts, Knowledge (religion) would help with undead, and...

    Meeting minimum feat prerequisites

Is there some passage in the SRD or one of the core books that specfically mentions this? It comes up from time to time and I'd like to be able to cite a source when next it does. Cheers, Vurt

D&D 3.x Can a Monk use the Improved Natural Attack feat (from the MM 3.5)

I think when most people use something with a similar mechanic as justification for something, they're not really concerned with the descriptive text as to whether it makes sense, but rather that the mechanic itself is balanced. For example, the mechanic of adding an extra attack, but all...
