So, how would YOU make a ECL 100 character?

Surely, you jest. Considering the epic Mystic Theurge's slow spellcasting and epic feat progressions, that would be the last character I'd play. A Wizard 50/Cleric 50 is actually a better build than a Wizard 5/Cleric 5/Mystic Theurge 90. The theurge casts his spells as a 55th level character in...

    MTV---Rembember when it was cool?

I remember when I considered MTV "cool." 1987. Played the damn station constantly. (That and CNN.) I was in junior high. Then I realized two things: 1) Music videos are truly an awful idea. When I listen to a song, I want to have my own images. 2) The commercially produced music of the 1980s...

Worst RPG System You Ever Palyed?

Never made it out of character creation in MERP. I don't mind the detail, but this was getting ridiculous. If it's flexible, it should have character points. Quit rolling on tables. The Palladium system. I've played RIFTS, TMNT, Robotech, Ninjas and Superspies. It was very chic to run TMNT in...

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince-SPOILERS!!!!

In addition to not liking the idea of Harry the Horcrux emotionally (I want him to survive and become an Auror -- the boy's life has not yet begun, and he deserves a long, quite life after his experiences of youth), there's a problem. I have a hard time believing that Voldemort, who THREE TIMES...

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince-SPOILERS!!!!

I'm pretty sure it came from the Quibbler, but basically, yeah. One thing about the Quibbler, is it sometimes really is right. I'm convinced it's right about the new Minister of Magic being a vampire. There's something too cool about the idea. I'll disagree with everyone about the book quality...

Do You Follow Links in Sigs?

Whoever had a link to the Al Bruno gaming stories on RPG.net, I clicked it and laughed my ass off.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince-SPOILERS!!!!

It's pretty clear (to me at least) that, should both survive, Harry and Ginny will wind up together. Ron and Hermione, they need to get a room. Really, I know this is young adult oriented, but at some point, the thought of nookie will pass through the mind of a pair of seventeen-year-olds. And...

Have you been disillusioned by the Forgotten Realms?

I liked the original boxed set. By 1991, I couldn't take the world any more. My issues are: Everything but the kitchen sink goes into this world. (Actually, I think there is a kitchen sink somewhere in Sembia ...) I appreciate the attention to detail, but rather than have a distinctive...

Five things that would change the game forever

Well, Law vs. Chaos is not a normal part of heroic fantasy, unless Law is a proxy for Good and Chaos is a proxy for Evil. I was thinking about alignment this weekend. I've always hated it, but I've viewed it as sort of a necessary evil (no pun intended). At a minimum, you need some way to...

Most common cause of PC deaths

I have a player who is convinced that, because he made a mounted charge against an 11-headed cryohydra, I went out of my way to kill his character.

    Be Heard

Well, GURPS Basic 4th, easy choice. Best RPG ever made. An improvement over the 3rd edition. A small improvement. I'd take the new Ars Magica next, and The Authority next by default, even though I've never even seen it. I don't think the D&D Basic Set should even be considered as it's a reduced...

    Counterspelling?

I've seen it used in a game in exactly one session. The party wizard, knowing the party was going up against an ogre mage (D'Gran in the Crater Ridge Mines), set aside his usual array of fireballs (he was an elemental savant who had a serious fireball fetish, casting it even when it got him in...

    Do you train your players?

I haven't yet, but now that you mention it, maybe I'll start training my players. Those yellow puddles underneath the gaming table can become quite annoying.

    d20 versus non d20

Easily non-d20, by at least 2-to-1. Most of my books are GURPS (I have over 50 supplements), over 60%. Most of the rest are d20, though I still have some old 1e/2e stuff (old favorites with which I couldn't bear to part, namely Complete Bard, Complete Dwarf, Fiend Folio, Monstrous Manual...

    Why is Palladium so ant-d20?

There's a long-standing joke that Siembieda couldn't decide whether to rip off D&D or Runequest, so he hedged his bets and made a system that ripped off both of them. Really, why? In this case, I can see Siembieda's logic. There's a glut of d20 products, and they're starting to gain a rep for...

    Worst Types of NPCs

Ah ... The party I am in is playing Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil, and we're in the moathouse. The grell makes work of my monk, so the logical response is to go back to Hommlet and have him raised, right? Well, the NPC with the party says, "Whatever is down there, we can handle it."...

Problems with Complete Character Sheet PDFs?

Yeah, I tried the Warrior ones after I posted, and they did the same for me. I can't figure out what that last page is either, FWIW. However, I just tried the Scout 4 page with Mac OS X Preview, and it works in that. The last page is just a description of class features.

Problems with Complete Character Sheet PDFs?

From what I gather from the WotC boards, it's the ones from Complete Adventurer that are causing the problems. I tried the 4 page ninja, the 2 and 4 page scout, and the 2 page warlock, and the ninja and both the scout ones gave me the error.

Do you have any dice superstitions

Yes. A die must be "balanced" -- each opposite side, when added together, must equal the die size, plus one. This is often a problem with d20s.
