    opinions of "Asterids parlor"

I think that some are missing the point of why there are certain males that really dislike the idea of an Asterid's Parlor (or Curves, or other perceived exclusionary-based groups): As a whole, men have been told we can't have that for ourselves, and that is especially true for white males - the...

D&D Dungeon Tiles - too late to start collecting?

Are the Descent minis painted or unpainted? By the looks of the pics above, they're painted, but I also read that they come unpainted.

Looking for Recommendations for a High Fantasy Campaign Setting

Here are my recommendations, based on settings/worlds I own: Pathfinder - this is my favorite (currently) of the settings, replacing the Wilderlands (which replaced the Scarred Lands). I love the feel of it and the stories. Its Greyhawkesque, similar enough that it seems somewhat familiar, yet...

    My group is TOO BIG

Speaking as someone who has run groups that big, I don't think you need to split the group, nor just focus on combat and not character development (you can do both - I know, we've done it). I'd recommend you try it with the big group first, with as many streamlining tips as you can. Groups that...

Notes from a Savage Worlds fantasy campaign (updated with 05/28/08 session notes!)...

I agree. I'm a fairly seasoned Savage DM, and still love to read Flynn's threads about the game. The Allthing was a stroke of genius. We used the mass battle rules to finish off our Evernight game, but it was somewhat anti-climatic (and I won't do it again that way). But that application of...

    My group is TOO BIG

Our group isn't quite that big (8 usually), but I have some suggestions based off our games: Non combat periods * Treat non-combat sequences like movies, and do "cuts" back and forth from players/groups during the scenes (especially when the group or individuals split up). Try to leave each cut...

Pathfinder 1E WOTC's Dungeon Tiles vs. Paizo's GameMastery Map Packs

I love the Dungeon Tiles. Nice, thick, versatile - good stuff. I bought some of the earlier Map Packs, and was sadly unimpressed by them. They are not the same product type as the Dungeon Tiles, in my mind. The Map Packs are essentially laminated cardstock, not terribly sturdy, and there is...

    Mini n00b needs info please...

I have something over 6,000 of the suckers, so storage is a big concern for me. I also want to be able to find them in relatively short order, without searching through a pile for the right one. So, after a lot of searching around, I use Akro-Mils Large Storage Cases (you can google for that)...

Rule 0 and DM/player balance of power.

Interesting. Why play with them again if you don't like the style? I don't RPG with those kind of players more than twice - once to diagnose, the second time to confirm - and if I'm the DM, I might not bother to confirm it. (Board games are another matter, since that is usually the idea.) As...

    Pathfinder 1E Savage Worlds/Pathfinder - A SavageRobby One Shot...

Flynn does a great job on his reports. I suspect he could make a trip to the dentist sound enthralling - but that is one thing that makes him a fun player to have. :) I don't have the SW Bestiary - between all the other resources available and the ease of monster creation in the stock system...

Pathfinder OGL/3.5 RPG system from Paizo

I know any number of folks that left 3x because of its over-complexity as a system. My group did, and moved to something else. While that isn't an explicit call for 4e, it was most definitely saying "3x isn't right for us". Of course, I don't think 4e is going to be right for us, either. I'm...

D&D Dungeon Tiles - too late to start collecting?

I have to agree that Dire Tombs is the best looking set of the bunch. Its really nice, and a nice departure from the theme of the rest. Fane is a lot like the first two sets. In fact, if you can't find the first one, Fane will fill pretty much the same niche. I got two of it because I typically...

    Miniatures/Grids/Tactics and In-Character Combat

I've been using minis and a battlemat - drawn, then later printed (2d) or assembled (3d) - for a good 6-7 years now, and haven't had any real issues with it. We started with 3x, and then moved to Savage Worlds as the complexity of 3x wore on us. So note that most of my experience, and all of my...

    Need some pirate minis cheap

Auggies is awesome. I've been buying minis from Andrew for almost 3 years now (wow, hadn't realized it had been that long), and he's always been a top quality seller. It helps that he has great prices and a great shipping policy, but he believes in great customer service as well (and he's just a...

    Need some pirate minis cheap

This was going to be my exact suggestion. I have in the neighborhood of 40 of them for whenever I run a pirate scenario. :)

In need of a Pirate Ship(s)

I'll third this model. I've built two - a three master and a two master - and they look simply gorgeous on the table. Plus the interior (both the cabins and below decks) is actually playable area. It also comes with a lot of ship-style props, as well.

D&D Dungeon Tiles - too late to start collecting?

Its definitely not too late to start getting them, and Set 2 and beyond are still very inexpensive (at least on Ebay). The latter sets have a lot of basic stuff in them as well. IMO, these are the best products that Wizards creates.

fire sale on Dungeon Crawl Classic adventures

They cancelled DC 9 and 38 from my order as well, but the rest (supposedly) shipped on March 18th (still not here). For reference, I placed my order on the morning of the 13th (8:00 AM CST). I'm not entirely happy they just refunded part of the order directly, without consulting me about...

Would you allow Diplomacy the ability to insult as well as negotiate?

I think there is a difference between pissing someone off by crafting a well worded insult, and taunting someone to the point of enragement - not a big difference, but enough (skill-wise) to merit seperate skills. I also think that there is enough difference in reverse - some folks are gifted at...

I have the Dungeons of Dread poster here's a set list

More inconsistent than usual, I'd add - although the consistentcy level has been dropping steadily the last year or two. I went to ebay yesterday and started ordering the singles of the figures that look remotely decent. This is the first set I've done that; prior to this, for each release...
