The Hoplite (think Spartan, Greek, Roman)

You're missing an important part of what made the spartans effective: the phalanx. Spartan warriors need the shield wall feat or something similar.

How will 4th ed. affect other d20-based games?

Why should they be affected? It's not like the 4e gestapo are going to show up at your house and take away your 3.0/3.5e materials. It's also not like the OGL and d20 SRD are going to go away. Obviously, for D&D settings, there will be repercussions, but that's a consequence of tying your IP...

    D&D 4E 4e What?

First, this won't be the first time a major deity's been killed in the FR. I suspect it won't be the last. in fact, didn't they kill the goddess of magic to make way for the transition from 1e to 2e? Second, they've announced the mystery race? Great! Where can I find the announcement...

D&D 4E The 4e Mystery Race is going to be...

Hate to be the naysayer, but wasn't there a reference to a goblin ranger in one of the playtest reports? And wasn't there also a reference to a fierce *mumble* ranger in the same party? I think we can fairly conclude that it's going to be goblins. --G

PCs using their abilities - a favor to the party?

If that's the case, we should have been done from day one, since the position you have consistently taken is that people who don't play clerics the way you think they should be played shouldn't be allowed to play at all. You've decided how you think a cleric should be played, and people who...

    Psionics- Where to Start?

Just beware of adamantine bodied warforged psywars with expansion, claws of the beast, bite of the wolf, tail of the dragon, and multi-attack. They're like self-propelled fireballs. --G

    Psionics- Where to Start?

The Expanded Psionics Handbook is all you'll need for 3.5. The Complete Psion is a nightmare that's best avoided. There are one or two feats in it worth considering, and some of the powers aren't bad. But all told, it's one of WotC's worst supplements. YMMV. --G

    OotS 500

I can't help but read this two ways. 1) You want to kill him, raise him, kill him, raise him, and kill him again. or 2) You want to kill him so bad it'll take three true rezzes to bring him back. Either one is appropriate. By the way-- Congratulations. Fatherhood rocks. --G

    Table of 10

Here's another option: Promote one of them to co-DM. I once ran a group of 14. 14! Through a d20 Star Wars game. The game ran very smoothly and people still talk about that game. It just takes some preparation (and a willingness to ad lib). We ran the game every other week. That meant...

Infernal pacts - appropriate for player characters?

This fight is kind of funny. Just last weekend, I ran a game with a paladin, a warlock, and a cleric . . . all from the same church. And it worked great. As it turns out, it's entirely possible to play an infernally tainted character without being evil. All it takes is a willingness to think...

    What's your favorite inexpensive wine?

Personally, I'm quite fond of Menage a Trois. It's a pleasant red table wine from California. When I lived in England, I drank gallons of beaujolais. It really depends on why I'm drinking though. When I'm out with my boss, inexpensive wines never grace the table (he's quite the wine lover)...

    31 Flavors of Warlock

I'm surprised no one has keyed off the feral warlock concept as a servant of nature. When I hear the word feral, I think of wild animals. Isn't it possible that a feral warlock is a kind of Shaman, bound by an oath to a powerful nature spirit? The feywild has two components to its name, fey...

Ah we finally learn Mialee's Sex!

Wrong. When referring to gender in languages, we're looking at the gender of nouns and adjectives. Your nice list up there is lacking in nouns or adjectives. And what we're looking for is examples of nouns that have an inherent gender connection (f'rex in spanish, iglesia (church) is always a...

Who will win the World Series?

I'll grant you that Bud Selig's notion of parity has done the NL no favors. Nevertheless, you can't really call Todd and the Toddlers mediocre. If you look at objective metrics, they're downright awesome. They have the best fielding percentage of any team. Ever. They turn double plays like...

Who will win the World Series?

As I mentioned in my previous post, teams with seven days rest going into the world series have won seven of the ten in which its occurred. The Rocks are getting 8 days. It's unlikely that the extra day will be that significant a factor. The NL may be the B-league, but I'm with Crash. The...
