I'd take a look at Slaine. It has a whole different vibe from the normal DnD standard being set in an ancient celtic world. I'm still reading it myself so can't be too specific yet, but so far so good. Check out the reviews for more info.

Personally, that is the way I'd go too, but I guess we are a small minority. To me it would be more flexible and more coherant.
