    [What's O.L.D Is N.E.W] Iain M Banks-inspired sci-fi campaign!

Wonky oddball ideas definitely have a place here. Read the books and you'll see what I mean. @CanadienneBacon Children being raised for organs and harvested before the age of majority is exactly the right kind of dark for the Culture to intervene in. It's the kind of thing that the technology...

    [What's O.L.D Is N.E.W] Iain M Banks-inspired sci-fi campaign!

@CanadienneBacon It's a pretty loosely connected 'series', and despite the fact that hundreds of years pass, that's more interesting as trivia than it is important as history. Most of the books are pretty self-contained, and if you're only going to read one, Consider Phlebas really isn't the...

    [What's O.L.D Is N.E.W] Iain M Banks-inspired sci-fi campaign!

Probably around the 10-12, by that scale. Time travel is not discussed, and if it existed it would probably be illegal. One of the core conceits of the setting is that the universe is crowded; life and civilization flourishes everywhere you look. Also, the Culture is not the future of Earth; the...

    [What's O.L.D Is N.E.W] Iain M Banks-inspired sci-fi campaign!

The setting is more futuristic than futuristic, so there'll be some best-fit scenarios no matter what we do. As always, reskinning is your friend. We'll use the playtest rules for now, but seeing as it *is* a playtest, chances are those rules will change at some point during play. All the...

Pathfinder 1E Don't Fear the Reaper - Interest Check (PF, psionics, modern tech)

Definitely a cool concept. Makes me think of Darker Than Black, and I'm a huge fan of that. Seems like you're doing well on OotS. I'll be lurking!

Drafting here. Still in the planning stages, but for those who need an excuse to get started, or who are interested but on the fence... We can set this up with the stated intent of this being a slower-posting game, if that helps anyone. CENTRAL CASTING: What I’m Looking For These are...

    D&D 5E (2014) [D&D 5e] Planescape - In Through the Out Door

Don't forget you can still talk out of initiative order, and narrate your actions in such a way that you're about to or in the process of doing something without actually taking the action, which might change on your turn. Initiative's a little funny that way. :) Blocking the portal is still a...

For Us It Was a Tuesday

Salvatierra blinks, as if woken from a dream. "Schematics, yes. Yes, they do seem to be that," she says, and takes the paper in both hands, letting the assault rifle dangle on its strap. She peers over them for a moment. "Hmm. Hmmm." She runs a hand through her hair. It has not escaped her...

Well, then. We have our system. Trigger pulled, let's do this thing. Thanks, Morrus! Generous of you. So I've had the Playtest for N.E.W (right here, read up everyone: http://www.woinrpg.com/playtest/) for a little while. Is there more?

    D&D 5E (2014) [D&D 5e] Planescape- In Through the Out Door (Full)

Fair enough. :) Just a passing fancy. I know initiative isn't rerolled from round to round, and hasn't been in many editions now. I didn't really start gaming until very late in the d20 system's heyday. But round-to-round-rerolling actually more justifiable in PbP than it is in tabletop games...

    D&D 5E (2014) [D&D 5e] Planescape- In Through the Out Door (Full)

Queenie It definitely makes sense, although ideally what I would hope would happen is that the players talk tactics in OOC, and you have some notion of what the rest of the party is doing even before you arrive at their turn. If I'm waiting for the last slot of the round, I can declare my...

    D&D 5E (2014) [D&D 5e] Planescape- In Through the Out Door (Full)

Something I might like to try: Rather than have characters be married to their initiative rolls throughout combat, and rather than the hassle of rerolling each round, what about this? Allies can swap initiative counts from round to round. That is, the counts stay where they are, but you can...

The thing gives an ear-piercing shriek and pitches back, barreling away from the portal, scuttling back crabwise down the sloped streets of Torch. Unfortunately, as it moves, several of the smaller, lankier fiends-- smaller here meaning only seven feet fall-- are thus revealed, peering in from...
