    D&D 5E (2024) Rate D&D 2024

I think they could have issued new printings with new art a la the black border 2E stuff and it would have been fine. The half edition nonsense created more problems than it solved.

Paizo Ends Pathfinder Adventure Path Softcovers, Switching to Quarterly Model

Based on the lead time in this kind of product (which I have worked on) Paizo is not getting any useful feedback for the next "issue."

5E Powered Gamma World: What Should It Look Like

Thanks! I was just a worker bee. @Autumnal was the man behind the curtain.

D&D 5E (2024) NPCs, and the poverty of the core books

I can't imagine being forced to spend years vetting everything that could possibly appear in the game before I am allowed to start the campaign.

    You can pick multiple things.

    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

I think the beginner GM book should have been in a really robust starter set and the actual DMG should be the reference at the table.

    D&D 5E (2024) Rate D&D 2024

So do I, but since I am not a player in a 2024 game I can't really judge it from that perspective beyond knowing that there are some changes my players like and some they despise. The MM is more of the same from Mordenkainens. I expected more -- significantly more. The MM preview videos...

So, anecdotally. Which is fine. But I wouldn't build a bridge out of it.

D&D General The Player's Quantum Ogre: Warlock Pacts

Right but people are advocating for here is the idea that anyone who chose to play a Warlock signed up for an intrusive boss, which is more of a problem (and more work for the GM) that a Paladin's Oath or a clerics extremely nebulous "devotion" -- for a class that by the fiction should have LESS...

D&D General The Player's Quantum Ogre: Warlock Pacts

Again, why? It isn't supported by the mechanics or even the inspirational fiction. "Historical" witches and warlocks got their powers from consorting with the Devil for no greater cost than their soul, because the Devil loves to sew chaos. This whole argument smacks of the old Paladin arguments...

Why. Clerics gods don't get directly involved.

Shadowdark is ubiquitous and had tons of GenCon games. I don't know where you are getting the idea that DH is an order of magnitude bigger. Look,I love DH. It is now my heroic D&D go-to. But Shadowdark is a big deal in the space.

That's almost all player facing, which doesn't concern me. I admit, bloodied being back is nice -- except very very few monster designs actually make use of it.

D&D General GMing and "Player Skill"

I'm not sure how much I buy the "the last likits" argument. I can only speak for myself, but as a GM that list gives me a solid foundation on which to make judgements for actions that aren't listed. If the last intimidates the players, the GM isn't doing their job.

D&D General GMing and "Player Skill"

Immersion -- which is what I think you mean here -- is not a major thing for me. D&D (and other TTRPGs) is a game first, and the story we build is in response to the game.

    Roll for Effect or Intent?

And I think your GM did it wrong. You told him what you were going for, they asked for a roll, you super double succeeded, and the GM then made you fail anyway. Bad form.

D&D General GMing and "Player Skill"

Unless the rules call for certain rolls at certain times based on the actions the player chose. That is why in some ways, more prescribed systems like 3.x are better. Knowing the process can increase player agency.
