D&D 5E (2014) 7th Level Spells allow lots of minions!

Hey, if you can't find gainful employment to the tune of well over 360kgp/year for 30 invisible flying assassins I think it's time to turn in your evil bag guy card and take up knitting! :)

D&D 5E (2014) 7th Level Spells allow lots of minions!

Yea, I ruled that they can work within the 1 hour. The fact binding has a 1 hour casting time and almost all summoning spells have that as their duration I've taken to mean they were meant that way. Also, I say a circle traps whatever you put in it for however long the circle lasts, assuming...

D&D 5E (2014) 7th Level Spells allow lots of minions!

That is certainly true, but I also have a PC in another campaign that will be doing likewise at some point. Part of the exercise is to play around with the game mechanics, and I've had a lot of fun doing somethings with NPCs with character levels. Made a 20th barbarian based on Orc Warlord...

D&D 5E (2014) 7th Level Spells allow lots of minions!

Well the description of Planar Binding specifically states that if the creatures was summoned or created using another spell, the duration of that spell is extended to match the duration of the binding. As far as the Planar Ally goes, that does stand to reason, although it's not like it says...

D&D 5E (2014) 7th Level Spells allow lots of minions!

Ok, so I have an NPC bard who's actually a main villain pretending to be one of the good guys, and he currently is 13th with access to the following: Magic Circle, Planar Binding, Conjure Elemental. If he casts the circle at 4th level it will last 2 hours, giving him the time needed to...

    D&D 5E (2014) High Passive Perception

I just reduced the passive perception from base 10 + Skill Mod to 5+ Skill Mod. And if you have disadvantage on perception/investigation for whatever reason that passive does not work. Still makes passive usable and I think just noticing things without actively doing so should be less than a...

    D&D 5E (2014) [D&D 5th Edition] Best 50/50 multiclass?

I made an NPC for my campaign who is the chief bully boy of the local crime boss. Backstory is that he was a barbarian captured in the north, brought south and made to fight in the slave pits. Rescued by the crime boss, now totally loyal to him. Stat wise he is a 5th Barbarian/5th Rogue...

    Building a worse Paladin

I have an NPC 14th level Rogue Thief subclass that has a Holy Sword he can use thanks to Use Magic Device. So, that seems like a worse paladin :)

D&D 5E (2014) The most Powerful out of Combat Characters

Paladins are pretty sick, but OOC their main skillset would likely stem from a high CHA which is always nice OOC, but I think Bards and wizards(13+ anyways) would probably have the edge.

D&D 5E (2014) The most Powerful out of Combat Characters

Wizards, Bards, Rogues, in that order I think. For the wizard depends on the level, but high level ones with lots of spells can do just about anything, especially once they can cast Planar Binding at 7th or above. Bards have expertise x 4 plus spells, plus they get the Modify Memory spell...

    D&D 5E (2014) High Passive Perception

Only for things with Passive versions of the skill, but it wouldn't do so for say Athletics or Deception. Leaves plenty of things for a Lvl 11 Rogue to hang their hat on with that milestone.

    D&D 5E (2014) High Passive Perception

Well, passive perception is by definition "Auto Detect", although a 21 hardly works in every case. Basically instead of DM's having to describe everything in absurdly game slowing detail and let the characters decide what they notice, something the DM will have to do very frequently and throw...

    D&D 5E (2014) High Passive Perception

Great answer! If a player wants that to be what his guy is all about, let them. It's neat. I have an NPC I made who's basically Sherlock Holmes, high INT, decent WIS, Observant and Keen Mind, and at 6th he's definitely got expertise in both Perception and Investigation. A bit light in the...

D&D 5E (2014) Building communities and ruling domains

Try the Companion Set rules for basic DND, had really simple rules for domains and also mass combat. In fact I recently purchased another copy for just those rules.

He's be like "Joey" from Friends. So yea, like you said.

D&D 5E (2014) Warlock in party with Quasit breaking story

A classic DM conundrum, but one of my favorites. I really enjoy when my players get stealthy and don't just go kicking down doors. And they should be rewarded for doing so. As mentioned by several others before me, your player took that pact with the knowledge that he/she was giving up...

    D&D 5E (2014) As a DM, can I just say, Screw Paladins :)

If he's down for bedding a wood elf crone clearly he has no problem with difficult terrain :)

D&D 5E (2014) How do you interpret the Oath of Ancients?

As DM you have all the leeway you could ever want interpreting things. Being a fanboi of Dresden Files I made a Winter Knight NPC for the Unseelie Court, a mortal champion. He's evil, but he's still a paladin, Oath of Ancients. Instead of entangling roots for his Nature's Wrath ability he...

    D&D 5E (2014) Bounded Accuracy and Asmodeus

I don't think it's too hard to imagine. Remember, there have been and are actual human beings who have ruled empires of millions, some of them had extreme loyalty from their followers, even the ones that could beat them up in a fight. No human emperor has actually had 300hp, not one of them...

D&D 5E (2014) Do Immunities to damage confer immunities to additional affects linked to the damage?

There are several abilities in the game that deal damage and also have a side effect. Ray of Frost deals cold damage and slows, Phantasmal Killer deals psychic damage and fears, etc... If you are immune to the damage type of the attack, are you also immune to the side effects? Or vice versa...
