D&D General A Class's Spell List Should be Listed With the Class Description.

Subclasses, feats, and magic items are sources of spells too. Every time we create a new subclass with a short spell list that contains spells that perform a basic function covered by other spells, do we have to create a new spell to represent that function?

D&D General A Class's Spell List Should be Listed With the Class Description.

I am not down with every spell being unique to one class. If 6 different classes are intended to be able to Cure Wounds or remove conditions with Lesser Restoration, why should there be 6 different versions of Cure Wounds, or Lesser Restoration? It's a waste of space. Spell lists that all...

D&D General 5E is the best version of D&D.

I'm glad you're having such a great time!

    D&D 5E (2024) Here's The New 2024 Player's Handbook Wizard Art

/s The wizard on the cover of The Secret of Bone Hill is too "Marvel Super Hero-ish" with the skin-tight lycra and high cowl. The wizard is clearly a rip off of the Scarlet Witch and Dr. Strange. Where is her tome, staff, or even backpack? It's obvious that the broken staff and the book on the...

    D&D 5E (2024) Do you plan to adopt D&D5.5One2024Redux?

But I wasn't talking about the "physics" of magic working differently, I was talking about the narrative of perspective of people within the world, if not the greater universe as a whole. Backgrounds are narrative tools. But they are small and personal in scope and don't make sense to apply to...

    D&D 5E (2024) Do you plan to adopt D&D5.5One2024Redux?

2014 Background Features are flawed because they really only work at a "realm" level, as opposed to a worldwide level or larger scope. It really doesn't make sense for a 1st level Folk Hero of Kara Tur, to be known to on the Sword Coast. Or for a cleric of an uncommon god like Kossuth to be able...

    D&D General Bizuids and Clercerocks

In my imagination, PCs are not everyday people, and everyday NPCs are not PCs. NPCs don't have the same opportunities, skills, nor gumption to be able to just take class levels as a choice. Players are the reasons the "PC-heroes" get to plan out character levels, as if they actually know the...

D&D 5E (2024) In Interview with GamesRadar, Chris Perkins Discusses New Books

Yeah, I don't play OSE style games. That works for some, but not me. I like looking forward to, and using, cool abilities.

    D&D 5E (2024) Here's The New 2024 Player's Handbook Wizard Art

While I am excited for the new books, I gotta agree. DC20 ability check to make it through the year relatively unscathed.

D&D 5E (2024) In Interview with GamesRadar, Chris Perkins Discusses New Books

There are too many cool, unique abilities for the 13 classes for them to be limited as subclasses of only 3-4 basic classes. If your idea of a barbarian is just a Fighter that has rage, I want no part of it. What about all the fighter abilities and the barbarian abilities? How does all that fit...

D&D General What is your favorite D&D swag/trinket/tchotchke?

For those of us that love D&D beyond the game itself, what are your favorite D&D-branded/themed items you've acquired that are not necessary game elements? Things like posters, art prints, figures, weapons, bags of holding, etc. Here are just a few of mine: I love my "Battle over Sharn" canvas...

D&D General The Double-Edged Sword: Is The New D&D Edition a Cash Grab in Disguise?

Um. I want D&D swag. D&D is my thing. I like my Tiamat coasters. I like my mimic dice pouch. I like the grins strangers give me when they see me wearing my D&D t-shirts. I like to collect my geek stuff! And so do most people. They may just have different geek passions.

D&D General The Double-Edged Sword: Is The New D&D Edition a Cash Grab in Disguise?

They are creating great content for the base. An even larger base than an adventure can touch. I think the UA showcased a lot to be excited for. No adventure excites me as much as this project to refine the core rules. Because I like to make/adapt adventures to my own stories.

Who is to say that they won't have the old SRD still up because it is a reference document that supports the older products created with that old SRD? Do you know something we don't? Or just saying that the sky is falling?

D&D General The Double-Edged Sword: Is The New D&D Edition a Cash Grab in Disguise?

I'm not re-buying the whole game because I have to. If the revised books give me value, they've earned my business. But we can all still play 5E with our current 2014 books. And every new adventure going forward will still be able to be played using the 2014 books as well. Sure, new...

D&D General The Double-Edged Sword: Is The New D&D Edition a Cash Grab in Disguise?

Agreed. Plans that are both profit-driven and community-focused for long-term growth are not the same as short-term cash-grabs.

D&D General The Double-Edged Sword: Is The New D&D Edition a Cash Grab in Disguise?

Wizards has been soliciting feedback for years, via polls, and at live events at conventions. Remember the polls asking about the 2014 books, where we learned how poorly people thought about certain design elements like the Ranger? They have ratings from the players about the 2014 elements. They...

D&D 5E (2024) In Interview with GamesRadar, Chris Perkins Discusses New Books

Sorry for not clarifying, I'm referring to older editions that such expectations were set. 5E has broadened roles for classes, and the UA revisions seem to be making that clearer and easier.

Live play. Also, I've seen others run numbers on how long a monk lasts against enemies. It rivals the other "tanks." Deflect Attacks is huge for damage mitigation. Being able to Dodge and Attack on the same round is crazy good (Patient Defense). They can't be pinned down if they get into trouble...
