So a few of us at the Nexus have talked recently about the idea of using orcs to represent Tarmaks (Brutes). This would be a way to include orcs while still respecting the mythos that the Dragonlance design team had created.

There are a few cases where an orc or half-orc might have slipped into DL. Some was early on, and unfortunately one slipped in during the 3.5 era. As far as Dragonlance lore is concerned, this is a "kender tale."

Kender don't steal from party members and are not jerks. The players who play them that way certainly are jerks.

Renegade Wizards, by Lucien Soulban, explored the idea of sorcerers existing prior to the War of the Lance, and the reaction of the Wizards of High Sorcery to them.

Right, but sorcerers in-world date back to the Age of Dreams. At least in the prior continuity.

This reminds me of the 1e days. The wizard class had level titles such as sorcerer and warlock.

But Dragonlance has sorcerers, dating back to the Fifth Age game, prior to 3e.

People are using a loophole. As Al-Qadim is really a subsetting of the Forgotten Realms setting, they're using the Forgotten Realms to put it out. I've seen a guy who put out conversions of the original DL series of modules because he set the War of the Lance in the Forgotten Realms.

Kender were created because Tracy Hickman, who is a Mormon, had moral issues with the thief class. He wanted to create a type of character with those abilities who weren't purposefully trying to steal. Enter the kender.

When in doubt, use the Graygem!

You see Knights of the Sword casting healing spells in Dragons of Summer Flame, but that's about it for Sword Knight cleric abilities.

I'm going to recommend picking up a copy of the Dragonlance Campaign Setting for 3.5! That will answer a bunch of those questions. With the exception of the artificer and warlock, every one of those classes have been featured in Dragonlance.

The PHB suggests that dragonborn can be used for draconians anyway. I would like to just think that dragonborn are either the children of draconians or a lesser version. A good draconian might be a noble draconian! As for orcs... They reason they were excluded is because draconians replaced...

I would love to see a legit D&D documentary. I paid into a Kickstarter D&D documentary about 8 years ago. It never came to be and I'm out money. I've tried for years to get my money back. Nada.
