The only "official" thing I've ever seen on this is a Forgotten Realms NPC shadowdancer who has Create Spawn clearly marked as his shadow's ability. I've got an SD in my campaign, too, and I've ruled that shadowdancers' shadows don't spawn other shadows, just to avoid the whole mess. :) Hope...
