    Turn Undead should be removed!

I don't care whether the spell system is used to model the power, or there is a divine channeling talent tree - so long as the concept of turning is kept in the game. I have seen it done with spells and it works just fine.

Which class will be the faveorite wrt multiclassing dips?

Odds are that the bonus feats from advancing as a fighter (for example) will have to be taken from the bonus fighter feats table, leaving such a character only the basic feats (one per three character levels) to choose wizard training feats. IMO this is a good thing, but it will not make the...

D&D 4E Why I like the 4ed Forgotten Realms (and 4ed in general, for that matter)

Without posting any spoilers for fans of the novels, I believe that events leave open the possibility that he may be able to survive. I have always disliked the idea of numerous high level NPCs roaming around the world. IMC the player characters are qualitatively different from NPCs. Much like...

    Turn Undead should be removed!

Regarding your first point, I don't think that the d12 hit points compensate for the lack of a CON bonus to hit points. I've generally found undead to be low hp critters compared to other creatures of their CR. The bad BAB (except for templated fighter types) also makes them weaker than other...

Spiked Chain: The Ultimate Defenders Wep or Sir Not Appearing in the Edition?

I dislike the spiked chain. IMO it is neither cool, nor visually appealing. That said, it is a popular choice among players and should remain in the PHB for that reason. The last time I used a miniature with a spiked chain, my party groaned. But I had removed the reach from it and the NPC...

    Guideline for creating Feats/Talents/Powers

I agree that this would be a nice feature of 4e, but I'm not holding my breath. Not only have we never seen this sort of thing in past editions from the designers, but I'm not sure exactly what such a system would look like. I've managed to get by just comparing a feat/talent to existing...

Any inherent conflict between per-encounter and per-day abilities?

It is exactly this situation, all too common in games I run, that is hampered by the 15 minute adventuring day. When the storyline requires the party to get into the dungeon to rescue the kidnapped children before they can be sacrificed by the cultists in order to allow the Entelechy of Entropy...

D&D 4E Why I like the 4ed Forgotten Realms (and 4ed in general, for that matter)

There was never an example of it in the canon. The most irksome thing about Midnight-Mystra to me was that she was NG. The earlier Mystra had been LN. It made no sense for the goddess of magic to be good. Her inactivity enabled evil. You know the old quote, "All it takes for evil to succeed is...

Any inherent conflict between per-encounter and per-day abilities?

That's what players in my game thought, until the dungeon denizens noticed the carnage the party had caused, tracked them back to their hiding place, used detect magic to perceive the aura from the rope trick spell, called in reinforcements, dispelled said rope trick and then gave them two...

Any inherent conflict between per-encounter and per-day abilities?

It's been my experience as well that 1 minute per level (and at lower levels, 10 min per level) buffs encourage gaming the system. Characters rush through encounters, sometimes even leaving the searching for treasure or examining the interesting clues phase until later, all because their buff...

    D&D 4E 4e Magic system, speculations?

As for me, there is more to a game system than just the magic system. I like D&D. I like a lot of things about D&D. I've had a lot of experience with systems other than D&D, but I've always come back. It certainly wasn't the magic system that kept bringing me back. Just because I love D&D...

D&D 4E Why I like the 4ed Forgotten Realms (and 4ed in general, for that matter)

I doubt that the 4e FR will be as different from the 3e FR as some people seem to think. If you were running a game in Maztica or Mulhorand, I'm sure that the setting will seem very different to you. But the FR has always focused on Sword Coast, Western Heartlands, the North, Moonsea, Cormyr...

    NPC Classes?

I agree with this, but I've always had a problem with killing things making you a better craftsman. I'm not sure that level based skills are the best mechanism for modeling these abilities. I have been toying with the idea of a five tiered system to describe professional/craft skills...

    Turn Undead should be removed!

In history, many folks had some clerical training. It is also extremely common in Katherine Kurtz's dernyi series. It is extremely common in our local Arcanis games as well. It's too bad that the only real non-RP effect in 3e (at higher levels, at least) is to allow the use of wands.

Any inherent conflict between per-encounter and per-day abilities?

QTF. I've never one to believe that D&D players are such poor role-players that they are incapable of playing a game without trying to break the system. This subject (which pops up from time to time) and the the thread on the all too certain bad effects of removing alignment from the game...

Which class will be the faveorite wrt multiclassing dips?

I hope just the opposite. I have always found strict character classes to get in the way of a good character concept. 4e appears to elevate concept over class. 1) Choose character concept 2) Decide which role that concept fills 3) Take class/classes that best describe that concept and role...

Spiked Chain: The Ultimate Defenders Wep or Sir Not Appearing in the Edition?

I'm not denying that chain weapons existed in history. I'm quite aware of them in fact. The spiked chain, as written in the PHB, is very different from historical chain weapons. Furthermore, the main issue I was making is that historical weapons didn't work the way spiked chains do in D&D. If...

New Dungeoncraft: The Dungeons of Greenbrier Chasm

Off the top of my head, I would respond: 1) The game doesn't make a difference between male and female characters. Unless you are running a simulationist game in which females are second class citizens and barred from spheres of male activity, it makes sense to include female characters in such...

Planned novels to bridge the edition leap?

I could have sworn that I'd read that Salvatore gave Drizz't TWF because he'd been told that rangers would have it in 2e. Of course, I read it on the internet, so it could have been - untrue. :(
