    Don't fall!

Falling damage is calculated at 1d6 per 10 ft. Hence it is something like this: Falling distance = 100 ft. Falling Damage = 1d6/ 10 ft. 100 ft / 10 ft = 10 x 1d6 = 10d6 falling damage If the PC has tumble he can make a tumble check to make the fall 10 ft shorter. But check the rules for falling.

    Advice needed on tactics

Your really never going to stand up toe to toe with a fighter type PC. Personally, I don't play monks because Ive never seen anyone play a Monk that did much for the party. Taking Rogue levels to gain Sneak Attack damage along with spring attack feat may add some interesting flavor. Spring...

    Rogues flanking at range?

So take this situation and tell me your interpretation, Bob has a melee weapon with a reach of 10 ft and threatens the Bad Guy, but he is not in base to base contact with the Bad Guy. Al (Bob's buddy) is directly opposite Bob on the other side of the Bad Guy (flanking). Al is in base to base...

Gonna play a scout. I can hear the other players whining already...

My opinion, Take a multi-class Rogue/ Ranger and you'll have a better scout at higher levels, or consider multi-class Rogue/ Scout. Getting all that bonus skirmish damage or sneak attack damage, would come in pretty handy. I think there is also a Woodland Rogue variant out of UA or...

    Your least favourite setting

Least Favorite Setting's: -Spelljammer--every session I ever played just sucked! -Kingdoms of Kalamar-- not enough fantasy for me, although I think it was more the way the DM ran that campaign than the setting itself. -Ebberon--strikes me as a bit out there, but then again I haven't read into...

Changing grip from 1h to 2h?

If I were the DM I'd rile it a swift or free action. I can easily see any combatant switching from one handed to two handed while moving.

Your opinion, a Drow or Duergar

I am getting ready to play in Underdark campaign starting at 5th Level. I chose to play the Rogue in the party. My problem is, can't decide to play a Drow or Duergar. From what the DM told us players, anyone who is not a Drow will basically be the peon. But I am having a hard time sucking up...

How would you rule this attack?

First, Does Shatter work on metal chains? I'm not sure it does. Portculis 15'x30' = 3d6 damage Normal falling damage = 1d6/ 10 ft. not including the first 10 ft. So that would be 2d6 damage from the portculis. If you consider the size and weight of the portculis you could go with 3d6...

    No Cleric in my Group

In low magic campaign, I don't think a Cleric is necessary if you have a viable alternative for healing. In high fantasy campaigns, Clerics are a necessity due to the wads and wads of damage Arcane spellcasters are throwing around. Most of our games are pretty much High Fantasy and...

    Scout's skirmish ability

Your missing the point of that last quote of mine. I was referring to the issue that a typical Rogue has to move within the targets melee threat range to get a flank. Meaning that the Rogue has to at least put himself in harms way to try and get the extra sneak attack damage. This is compared to...

    Scout's skirmish ability

I see your point but view it slightly different. I think the Scout class is better suited for open areas where his mobility can be used to its fullest. Close quarters doesn't seem to be the Scouts ideal setting to maximize his class abilties. One last thing, I still feel that it makes...

    Question re: Blink

I would say that the blinking effect is negated. Also, here is something to think about. I don't have the spell in front of me, so correct me if I'm wrong. I believe the Blink spell says that both the blinking character and it's opponent have a 50% miss chance while blinking. So not only does...

    Rogues flanking at range?

So someone tell me how a Rogue could actually sneak attack with a ranged weapon! I assume the conditions would be very strict like: An invisible Rogue is standing within 30 ft of a target ready to take a shot from a Shortbow. Are there any other conditions?

    Find the Path Spell Question

Can I make a suggestion? Since the spell basically identifies the shortest most direct route to a location, your encounter don't have to be off the beaten path. Place them on the direct route to the Big Bad Guy. On the other hand, if your PC's are always facing the BBEG with with sub par...

    Scout, Tempest, Dervish build?

A friend of mine made a character build something like Rog 4/ Swash 4/ Duelist 10 (I forget exactly but these are the classes levels might be a little different) . He doesn't wear armor of any kind and has the highest AC in the party. Our DM checked the math on the build and it is accurate...

    Warrior - Will Save

Seeten, Honestly, it sounds like your DM doesn't like his bad guys to lose an encounter. Any DM who goes out of his way to starve a character of its flavor needs a kick in the pants. My advice is to talk with the other party members first away from the DM and see if they feel your...
