Another Big Playtest Post from Michele Carter

Damn, I hope there's no "aggro" stuff. That's only needed in a game that fails to allow more realistic ways of forming lines and barriers in battle. D&D should make that work better, not make it messy by combining different competing mechanics for accomplishing the same thing (attacks of...

No Design and Developments article This Week?

We got like a gajillion playtest secrets this week, plus all the stuff from WWDDGD. So we'll be fine without an official article for one week. That said, it isn't even 4am on the west coast yet, give it some time. :)

    Michele Carter's Big Playtest Post!

Wow... thanks. >_< Now I know how King Arthur felt when facing the taunting Frenchman... "is there anyone else that we talk to?"

    Are we there yet?

Ya, grandma always insists on allowing AoO's when someone attempts a personal attack...

    Are we there yet?

GAH, this it taking FOREVER! I hate these long trips! Next time, let's take a plane-message-board! By the way, the threat of only d12's inadvertently got my mind working, so I now know how to role any D&D die with just d12s. Ya... THAT nerdy.

    Michele Carter's Big Playtest Post!

JohnSnow makes a good point, we now have some evidence the mystery race isn't Drow (which I thought all along). The adjective for things concerning Eladrin is Eladrin. "I speak Eladrin and I seem quite Eladrin because I am an Eladrin." See? I hope the movement thing isn't too fantastical...

D&D 4E Rumor control: Lucca 4e seminar report inaccuracies

Ya, that sounds fine to me. As long as the errata are corrections of mistakes or completely broken rules and NOT revisions.

    Ability Scores

Hmmm, that's very interesting, I think you might be onto something. I don't think it's quite right though. Imagine the bonus damage given by high level characters!

    Michele Carter's Big Playtest Post!

We have definite confirmation of a mystery race, and indications of an empire ruled by this mysterious race. The race is one that might lead to negative fealings, but were overlooked. I'm guessing something like Hobgoblins, but it could be the bird-men from Flash for all we know (since she...

    One new setting a year?

Well, there's a good chance there'll be some Dragonlance in there. There are still new books after all. I for one think it would be refreshing to acquire some licenses of popular fiction settings and model it with D&D, rather than the other way around. Feist's Midkemia, for example, was...

Playtest: Prophecy of the Priestess, Part 2 (Updated: Part3)

The only interesting 4E tidbit I found from installment 3 was this: "And although it is Wilbur and Valenae that manage to deal mortal blows to the bats, without the support of Kriv flanking and Mal employing his warlord abilities to help keep people up and fighting, the battle might have gone...

    Ability Scores

I think it's safe to say the main motivation for shifting the bonuses is to avoid negative numbers somewhat. As to why they didn't shift it ALL the way, I don't know. But I'd bet there's a reason.

    Ability Scores

Yes we do. I guess not everyone obsesses over every tidbit like us nerds. :) At D&D Experience, one of the Wizards folks gave us the formula, as stated in this thread. See recent news at the Enworld News page for the link.

    Races & Classes

Says the student that didn't take or remember anything past intro level Eco. No offense, it's a good stab, but not quite right. Prices of houses can differ from one area to another because of the lack of portability. Not so with books. So to say that the price difference is due to supply and...

How Much is That Fighter in the Window?

I don't think that the old Leadership feat is unbalanced, it's just annoying at times. Having a troup of level 1 dudes follow you around all the time takes a lot of game time. But I don't think the answer is limiting the absolute number of followers. The answer, if there is one, is to...

D&D 4E The internet: 4E can't have it both ways

Depends on the topic If WotC keeps in mind what segment of the population the internet message boards represents, they'll be fine. Screems of outrage over change from past versions will obvioulsy be louder among our set than the general population. But opinions on art, new mechanics, options...

What is the 2nd controler ?

Really? That's interesting news. You're not WotC are you? If not, how were you speaking to Mearls? Any linky link to that conversation? I'd also like to say that I hope and expect it to be possible to customize a character so that a Wizard can be a Striker or a Fighter be a Leader, etc...

What is the 2nd controler ?

Listen to the latest Podcast. Either the WotC fellow mispoke or the Warlock is a Striker. Not really sure which is the truth, but I tend to believe it's a Striker since we haven't heard any corrections.

What are the "Roles" in True20, Etc?

That's good information, thanks everyone. What I'm trying to figure out is if someone house rules a flat HP system for 4E, how will Leader classes fare? Should their healing powers be changed or replaced with out more useful abilities?
