4E/Earlier Editions Hybrids: Why the difficulty?

Out of curiosity... if you prefer a different alignment system, why not just use it? In 4e I haven't really seen any mechanical implications as far as character alignment, and I'm sure even if there are it wouldn't be that difficult to adjust them.

Playing RPGs impromptu, or while missing supplies!

What do you guys usually use when you have the sudden urge to play D&D or some other RPG, but are missing either some supplies or everything? I'm sure I'm not the only one who's been sitting around with some friends when suddenly someone says, "hey! let's play D&D!" without having everything on...

Tricks to make your RPG experience better!

What Rechan said. To elaborate a bit, basically you can just toss it on top of the mini without much trouble, and it's usually really easy to notice. Most minis have an arm or weapon or SOMETHING sticking up also so it hangs across part of it making it really visible. Also, IMO it's about 400x...

Bard's "Inspire Competence" out of combat

Thanks! I was looking in the wrong spot (specifically, the How to Read a Power section). Unfortunately even with a PDF copy, you can't exactly do a search for "until the end of the encounter" as that'll get about a bazillion hits on powers. Completely missed "Durations" in the Table of Contents :X

Bard's "Inspire Competence" out of combat

Inspire Competence, a Bard level 2 encounter utility, phb2 p70, reads: "...Until the end of the encounter, each target gains a +2 power bonus to his or her next check using that skill." If used outside of combat, how long would this effect last? Additionally, how long does it last in a skill...

    Bard does not suck!

So, given that Bards can literally mock enemies to death with Vicious Mockery, anyone have any cunning lines to use with said at-will? :D

Melee Training - Good or Bad?

Step 1: Mark a primarily-ranged (IE artillery) target with Oath of Enmity Step 2: Get adjacent and wait. Either your target shifts away and triggers your Censure of Pursuit bonus damage, or is forced to take an opportunity attack whenever they do something ranged. If your OA sucks, of COURSE...

One Dark Night in Weeping Briar?

I personally enjoyed jumping in at paragon tier, as I hadn't played 4e above level 3 before this weekend. It was a nice change of pace. I do agree, however, that two pages full of powers and other stuff would've been a lot to keep track of if I wasn't already experienced w/4e.

Why aren't there short, fat PC races?

I'd be fine with that. Of course, they could just discuss it here :D

Three cheers for variety! (Class/Role/Source options, anyway)

Actually, this month's dragon has an article on making assassin-type characters, and out of basically any class, not just rogues: Dragon 373: Art of the Kill Not sure if that's what you were thinking of, but it's another example to support your point.

    Should games stores offer wifi?

Having ready access to the Compendium at a game store would be nice.

    Game Day Observations

When my group first started playing, another player and I doubled up on characters just so we could get started until other people showed up. Thus, I got a chance to play both the Avenger and the Invoker. The Avenger was totally awesome, but I didn't have a single time where Censure of Pursuit...

Why aren't there short, fat PC races?

Because your typical adventurer is going to have a relatively athletic build. Those who are less physically oriented, IE wizards, are generally depicted as the frail, weak body type. You're more than welcome to flavor your character outside of that; however, the art will most often be of your...

things i like/dislike about dungeon delve - sort of a review

Given my limited supply of money for D&D stuff, dungeon tiles & a bunch of minis aren't *really* an option for our group. We usually use printed counters and a battle mat for encounters, though our last couple sessions we've tried working without a grid at all for 4e and it has worked great :)...

things i like/dislike about dungeon delve - sort of a review

Actually... I've done EXACTLY that before. The party lived, but narrowly. I think there was one death, but the rest survived. We had 6 or 7 people that day also, but I buffed the monsters (hell, I gave the elite threatening reach and they fought in an incredibly small room). It can be done...

sons first adventure, plus dungeon mapper tool

Some way to "see" what you're about to place before it gets placed would be nice. Sort of like a faded version of what it'll look like once you click that's under the mouse, or something. For the most part the program works fine w/o it, but for stuff like setting down an 8x8 room or w/e it'd be...

Anyone know of a good encounter generator?

Though it's not random, if you have a D&DI sub you might found the encounter/monster builder tools useful. D&D Bonus Tools

    Multiclassing and Expanded Spellbook

Either way, it's the same number of usable powers each day. The wizard just doesn't get to pick and choose which options from the other class they want for that particular day like with wizard dailies. Plus, given you're not exactly replacing your entire repertoire of spells for another class...

Acting as another race: is it worth a feat?

This. A feat that's a straight prereq and nothing else is about as much fun as picking up weapon proficiency on the offchance you'll come across a weapon. Sure you'd certainly qualify for other feats and whatnot, but you only get one of those every other level... so it'd be something like...

sons first adventure, plus dungeon mapper tool

Though I much prefer hand-drawing things out, I do like the app! The simplicity of it is nice. I took a look at the adventure, it reminds me of the game idea stuff I came up with when I was around that age. As far as helping him with map drawing, did you give him a blank sheet of paper or graph...
