    I'm a bad DM part 2

The MF can't go from PC to PC automatically sucking out brains. See my post above. It takes 2-3 rounds to suck out each brain, assuming that the MF succeeds at the 2-3 grapple checks necessary --- which the PCs can resist even when they're stunned.

    I'm a bad DM part 2

A couple of comments on this particular encounter. The DC for the MF's mind blast given in the module is incorrect --- it should be DC 20 instead of DC 23 (see the last post of this thread for confirmation of this). Also, a lot of people misinterpret the rules for being stunned. Not sure if...

    Anyone got Dungeon 139 yet?

At least two posters have admitted to getting #139 on Friday, so SPILL THE BEANS! :D Especially regarding the preview of #140 and the editorial --- which supposedly discusses the next three-part mini-arc.

    Sonic Monsters: Ideas

MM III is your friend...how about a Deathshrieker (CR 15) or a Living Greater Shout (CR 15, using the Living Spell template). The Deathshrieker is a Medium incorporeal undead with a nasty scream attack (possibilites are deafening, stunning and insanity) and a touch attack that deals permanant...

Help me with the CR for this encounter? -- my players out!

I'd peg both monsters at a strong CR 7 or weak CR 8. Together, you're looking at an EL 9 or 10 encounter -- just tough enough to be pretty dangerous for an 8th level party that has already used some resources. Should make a good encounter.

    No Underdark Minis on Amazon?

Strange. They're available on amazon.ca. If you're in the States, you can buy them elsewhere for less than they would be on amazon...gameoutfitter.com for example.

    Point Buy Systems: Help Please

Does anyone apply racial ability modifiers before buying the stats? For example, a dwarf would start with Str 8 Dex 8 Con 10 Int 8 Wis 8 Cha 6 and buy from there.

Age of Worms - spoilers included

DMG, pg. 302, "Cold Dangers," second paragraph. I suppose one could rule that exposure to brown mold isn't the same as, say, passing out in a blizzard. ;) I would probably let it slide. Consulting the module, the "Slab Trap" has onset delay (3 rounds) and manual reset.

Age of Worms - spoilers included

My group never explored this part of the Cairn (I think they were terrified to get in the elevator -- and given the nature of the crushing elevator and what was waiting at the bottom of the collapsed elevator shaft, I don't blame them), but here are my thoughts: There is a delayed onset of 4(?)...

Eberron: Voyage of the Golden Dragon?

It's actually a one-shot, not a series. From the WotC 2006 Catalog : Voyage of the Golden Dragon Ed Stark The fourth stand-alone adventure for the Eberron campaign setting. This low-level stand-alone Eberron adventure revolves around the maiden voyage of the Golden Dragon, an immense elemental...

    Hit points at level-up

In reply to those who don't allow levelling "on the fly" so to speak, I can understand your point of view. On the other hand, what are the new abilities that PCs gain upon levelling up? Most of the time, it amounts to little more than a +1 to hit and on a saving throw, plus a class ability...

    Hit points at level-up

Just a quick note on ratios (sorry, I'm an astrophysicist-in-training and these little math foibles bug me): When you add new HP to a PC's max and current HP, that doesn't maintain the ratio -- it increases it. For example, if a PC has 5 of 10 HP, he's at 50% health. If he then gains 5 HP...

    Hit points at level-up

A little survey for everyone (maybe someone with more clout than I could turn this into a poll): How do you determine a PC's hit points when they level up? Do you have them add the newly gained HP to both the max HP and current HP, or just max? Do their current HP increase just enough to...

What is the (2nd?) best portable battlemat?

Ah, Flip-mats -- I forgot about those. I saw that thread, too. That could be an ideal short-term solution, perhaps even a long-term one. Does anyone know where to get one in Canada, on- or offline?

What is the (2nd?) best portable battlemat?

I think most people who have heard of or seen Tact-Tiles would agree they make for the best portable battlemat around, but as I'm having a difficult time of fulfilling my Tact-Tiles craving, I was wondering about other options out there. What do you think is the second best (or best if you...

    Oots # 223

This is grammatically incorrect -- it should be, "It took me and my mate many years..." not "my mate and I." A mistake Vaarsuvius would never make. :o

    Where can I get Tact-Tiles...

Thanks to all for the suggestions. Results: I concur that e-bay is devoid of all Tact-Tiles. Campaignoutfitters are out of stock. Imaginaire are out of stock, except for the over-priced set that includes a cardboard box and marker. The trouble with ordering from bc-products (and the...

    Open feat slot?

Quick question for the ENWorld sages: is it written anywhere that it is illegal (or legal?) to leave a feat slot open, i.e., to not take a feat at 3rd level and instead take two at 9th level, or one at 7th, etc. I know this could easily be abused and lead to unbalanced characters, but I'm...
