RPG Print News – Cubicle 7, Legendary Games, and More

I have the originals and 2E, but never played them. I just enjoyed reading them. The last time I ran a SW game I used Mekton Zeta. Oddly enough I just read the D20 SW RPG later too, never played it... just thought about that. Apparently I have classified official SW RPGs as reading material, not...

    Luke Crane Resigns From Kickstarter

Unfortunately talent in a field is not always paired with good personal character. That's been demonstrated so often in wider fields than gaming that I don't find it surprising. Just sad.

    D&D Movie/TV Update on D&D TV Show -- Underdark, Small, 6-10 Episodes

Small... sounds like it's being pitched for a streaming service (I haven't read the interview, have they said?). That sounds good as long as they don't bury it on one that doesn't have a broad audience. Too many new streaming services out there with a show or two and a specific back catalogue.

D&D General You're Hasbro/WotC Marketing - What Do You Do for the 50-year Anniversary in 2024?

What Lanefan said. And then celebrate the fact that I've been playing D&D for 50 years... which brings the horrifying realization that I'm old. Really old (65). On the other hand, I'll be retired then and I can game like it's 1974! Until I fall asleep... :D

Worlds of Design: Death from Above

I've always found that illusion based spells / magic items have a significant impact on the application of flight to combat. When what your seeing is not real, or is disguised flight becomes less useful. Illusory terrain, armies, are a problem as is invisibility. And there are those pesky air...

RPG Print News – Golden Goblin Press, Onyx Publishing, and More

I'm waiting for my stitched hardcover from the KS, but the PDF and POD are available at DriveThru. I might pick up a POD to spread the wear and tear I anticipate. I am more than happy with the game :)

D&D General Gameplay Trailer for D&D Dark Alliance Video Game

Hmmm that pastoral farming sim could be fun... Orc raids, Ankhegs popping out to eat farmers, Wyverns snatching sheep... could be the most combat heavy D&D game ever! :D

D&D 5E (2014) Do You Prefer Sandbox or Party Level Areas In Your Game World?

Well, jumping in to the far end on this one... Sandbox. Areas have a given level of danger, but there are clues as to what it is and border zones where you can get your toes wet and decide if you want to proceed forward. My players are pretty good at taking hints, researching areas etc. So...

D&D 5E (2014) New Unearthed Arcana: Folk of the Feywild!

The reference I was making was back to flying. Since it does effect speed on foot what would it do to flying speed. Is the loss the exact same (10', 20', is it a proportion of your flying speed (1/3, 2/3), when does it become impossible to fly etc. They haven't exactly been forthcoming on...

D&D 5E (2014) New Unearthed Arcana: Folk of the Feywild!

Sure. Say +/- 5 pounds? I suspect well fitted plate is less of a problem than some heavy armors. But, how does the encumbrance (armor, weapons, and gear) effect your speed? Endurance? Jumping? Swimming? If weight has an effect on those it should have an effect on flight ability. All imho of...

D&D 5E (2014) New Unearthed Arcana: Folk of the Feywild!

Field plate weighs about 45 pounds and fits well. Carrying the weight on foot isn't that bad. Is that all the encumbrance they have? Probably not. Weapons, back packs with various items in it, belt pouches, clothing / boots, etc. It all adds up and that's why I suggested encumbrance totals, not...

D&D 5E (2014) New Unearthed Arcana: Folk of the Feywild!

When I finished laughing it started me thinking about flight endurance, soaring vs. active flight (flapping those wings), momentum, maneuverability, and other trivia related to flight :)

D&D 5E (2014) New Unearthed Arcana: Folk of the Feywild!

Bald Eagles can lift about a fifth of their weight. That stray bit of trivia came up with concerns about them predating small pets years ago (not my concern btw). So, that was unlikely (if you didn't include teacup dogs / puppies / kittens). I don't know about other raptors but I imagine the...

D&D 5E (2014) Solasta: Crown of the Magister Gets a Dungeon Builder

I have both Solasta and BGIII, but haven't had the chance to play / compare them. Looking forward to when I can. Right now, work is taking pretty much every moment I have :(

D&D General Hidden Path Making 3rd Person Open World AAA D&D Video Game

The Unreal engine in all it's iterations has been an excellent game engine. The current version is visually outstanding, well supported, and can manage impressive scenes / numerous models with, basically, photo realism. It's been used by numerous games from indie titles to "AAA" ones. It's the...

RPG Print News – Osprey Publishing, Ulisses Spiel, and More

Osprey was always great for painting guides when we were doing historical miniature games. I hope they go beyond "just" the rpgs and provide background guides for their RPGs, painting / miniature guides, world building / scenic looks at typical areas (taverns, markets, temples, etc.), etc...

    It's Your Turn to GM

The last time I played in a game... 2nd Edition AD&D was new :D I like playing. I prefer DMing. I can understand DM fatigue and the need to have another DM / GM. And sometimes real life interferes in having regularly scheduled games for a time. I've never had DM fatigue, but there have been...

    Dragon Reflections #39

Ahh, to be in my late 40s again :D I'm 62 myself. Our original group (1974) were all male miniature wargamers. The first female in my games was the late 70s (1978-9?), about the time AD&D was taking over. I ignored the Strength limitations. It was corner case rare anyway and just seemed unfair.

    Dragon Reflections #39

I had a bear of a time finding female miniatures that were armored and equipped reasonably. At first we just glossed over the miniatures gender, plate mail being plate mail :) Over time you could find more and more of them. Pretty much all the new classes in the Dragon after AD&D debuted ere...
