A parallel question to this... All Ray spells are ranged touch attacks... Are all spells that require a ranged touch attack ray spells? "Weapon Focus (Ray)" is a separate feat. It's given as an example in the SRD (and probably PHB). Slim

No. The wizard would need a tumble check for that. The concentration check (Casting on the defensive) only stops the AoO's that could be taken because of spellcasting only (in this case). Slim

I think they re-introduced the AD&D 2nd edition notion that silver weapons are not as effective as their steel counterparts, that was left out in 3.0 (you can check the description of the Dagger, silvered, in the equipment chapter of the PHB). IIRC, in AD&D, you didn't have a damage penalty...
