D&D 5E (2014) Do you want new settings, character-types, and monsters?

New settings? Reprint of older settings? Not really. I have my own homebrew setting so would have no use for them. However, setting books are great to yoink from. I've done that with Eberron, and I've done that in previous editions (including Pathfinder), taking what I like from the other...

WotC Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance Video Game Announcement Trailer

I'd listen to a lot more metal if there weren't so many lead "vocalists" that sound like Cookie Monster trying to eat the mic. The music part I quite enjoy. It's when that part inevitably shows up that I lose all interest. Unless I can find an instrumental version of it. Though, it is better...

D&D 5E (2014) Alternate Character Creation rules (houserule)

I did the same thing. Based Sorcerers on Con spell casting (makes more sense since the sorcerer's spellcasting is inherent and in their blood. IMO anyway).

D&D 5E (2014) Alternate Character Creation rules (houserule)

I've done something similar, going back to something similar to the playtest. My races give a +1 to a score of the player's choice, while the class gives a +2 to one of two scores (pretty much based on the class's saving throw proficiencies), which the player chooses. So far, this hasn't caused...

WotC Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance Video Game Announcement Trailer

When I saw a new Dark Alliance game, I was intrigued. Then I saw the trailer, and it vanished. It might be a good game, it might be as bad as the trailer. And I probably won't care until the game is almost released and I remember it exists. Though, it looking like you play predetermined...

D&D 5E (2014) Merging the Sorcerer and Warlock

Their hit dice also changed depending on their subclass, or at least that's what it seemed like in the write up. The sorcerer's hit dice was listed in the sorcerous origin section, and not the actual class section like the other couple classes that were in the 1st or 2nd playtest packet...

D&D General D&D Art across the editions

I was going to type up a post trying to get it through everyone's head about exactly what I was saying, but it was just a waste of time. So I will let everyone continue to believe what they think, and lowkey13 can continue with his poor excuse for subtle mockery.

D&D General D&D Art across the editions

All the art in the first post with the 5e full-page images are all well made, and I can see why some would like it and why WotC paid probably quite a bit of money for them. The artists that made those paintings are very skilled/talented people, and that skill is greatly shown in the images they...

D&D General D&D Art across the editions

That's just how it is to my eyes. I hate looking at it, and don't find it visually pleasing. It's the same for a lot of "classical art" you learn about in art history. Not saying they are terrible, as they are really well done and they have more skill than I do when it comes to art. But I hate...

D&D General D&D Art across the editions

I do like the red dragon for 5e, and of the giants, the one you chose looks good. Compare it to the other giants, and the others look terrible. They kinda look washed out. As for the full page spreads? None in the 5e appealed to me, though the prismatic spray against all the chuul I did like...

D&D General D&D Art across the editions

I don't know what the 2e art looks like for Pathfinder, but for their 1e art, they commissioned a lot of great artists all over deviantart to create many of the images used in their books (that isn't something from WAR). As for 5e, they seemed to have taken everything from 1 artist...

D&D General D&D Art across the editions

I actually liked the 3rd edition core book covers. They made sense to me, as they are handbooks, and should look like books. However, I do enjoy the more full page images of the others, as they are more visually appealing. Except 4e. I did not like a lot of the art from 4e. On another hand, 3e...

D&D General Mechanics you DO want to see return

--I would love AD&D ability scores. An 18 used to be amazing, and 20 was basically unheard of. Getting those Guantlets of Ogre Power and boosting your Str to 19 was something fighters looked forward to. Now, with a 19 being no different from 18, and most fighters having a 20 in Str by the time...

    D&D 5E (2014) Version 5.25 -- what do you change?

I haven't read all the replies, but your's stuck out to me. Especially your first point. While I don't know about all at level 1 (I would say level 2 for all except cleric and sorcerer, or maybe just sorcerer would stay level 1), I'd have them all get their subclass abilities at the same levels...

    D&D General Favorite Halloween One-Shots

What I had planned to be a one-shot ended up starting mid August and ending the week of Halloween, weekly sessions of about 3-ish hours each. It's a homebrew adventure based off one I read on the internet a few years ago. I ran this last year. Title: Doesn't really have a title. Just "Halloween...

D&D 5E (2014) UA interviews: The possible future for Pet Subclasses in 5e.

Also, large races deal an extra die of damage with weapons. A large PC wielding a longsword deals 2d8 damage instead of the normal 1d8. So there's more stuff to deal with by having a large PC race that I am sure WotC just doesn't want to hassle with.

TSR Jim Ward: SSI, Dungeons & Dragons and the Computer Industry

I played 2 of the 3 "of Krynn" gold box games back in the mid-late 90s when we got our first home PC with 2 MB of RAM. I can't remember what the one is named, but one I played was Champions of Krynn, and the one I didn't get to play was the Dark Queen of Krynn. I have all 3 of them on my gog...

D&D General DnD Stereotypes In The Home Game

I try to go against the tropes. None of the stereotypes of traditional D&D hold up in my games. For the most part. Elves and dwarves don't have any sort of animosity, at least that comes to blows (unless an elf makes fun of a dwarf's beard). A dwarf's beard is his pride, which is why when a...

D&D General Displacer Beast plushie at Gameholecon

It's cute, though the coloring they chose isn't all that close, IMO. Had a laugh at the pink X they used for a butthole... That pink stood out on the rear view photo.

    D&D 5E (2014) Reimagining racial ability scores

I mentioned doing something similar, because I didn't like every single rogue being a halfling, or elf archers, half-orc barbarians, etc. I got flack by someone saying "the PCs will just pick the racial traits (stuff like stonecunning, gnome spell resistance, elf extra cantrip, etc) instead of...
