    D&D and the rising pandemic

We haven't even hit the peak yet here in the US, and there are already a lot of pundits and politicians making rumbles about reopening things, Some are even falling back on an early tough-guy idea: "It's not that bad, just let it run its course." At least one high-profile talking head recently...

    D&D 5E (2014) Next session a character might die. Am I being a jerk?

This situation doesn't doesn't sound unfair to me at all. I mean, that's what revenants are for. It could be a great recurring headache for the party for a while -- especially if it shows up not every night, but only at inopportune times wearing different bodies. If you're really concerned...

What makes a good map good?

I've only just started looking at it, but that's a great thread. Thanks for digging it up!

What makes a good map good?

I'm definitely a fan of a lot of what I've seen in OPDs, as far as useful perspectives and compressing a lot of info into a small space. I've found, though, that that information density often is what makes them hard to refer to at the table/on the fly. I think the descriptions on this one are...

What makes a good map good?

I think one's certainly usable, though it requires some close study. Aside from the busy background (which I assume wouldn't be quite so contrasty in print?), the two things that stand out for me are the compass rose is styled & positioned such that it looks like it's part of the map, a round...

What makes a good map good?

I think the color is fine. It's subtle enough that if someone can't see it-- or prints it out in b/w-- the map is still useful. I would definitely need a symbol reference, though. I instantly recognized the "soft" bits as shadow, but I was interpreting them as pickets sticking up from the floor...

What makes a good map good?

I've downloaded a doc called "Harn Map Keys", I'll definitely take a look at this and maps that use it. Thanks for the recommendation. For anyone else interested, there's a Harn World Bundle available for free at dtrpg that contains that Map Keys doc, a few maps, and other goodies.

What makes a good map good?

One thing in particular has also tripped me up me recently: multi-level rooms. I suppose isometric views sort of accomplish this. Is that sufficient? For example, in one dungeon there's high aviarium spanning four levels. In principle, an encounter here could take up the whole space, which...

What makes a good map good?

Lots of good advice and resources, thanks! Especially interesting are the concerns with color. I had always assumed color is superior, but it seems b/w with concise symbology may be the best way to go.

    The Logic of Panic Buying

I usually live with several months of supplies on hand. However I spent the last year whittling it all down in order to move. "Seriously," I thought to myself, "what are the chances of a major global crisis during the exact few months I'm planning a transcontinental move?" Doh! 😣 .

What makes a good map good?

What makes a good dungeon map good? I'm referring to the design of the map itself, not how it's presented (eg, Logos v Schley or whatever) or what inhabits it. I'm curious to hear specific pointers, abstract "theory", links to articles, whatever. Sample maps to illustrate are also helpful...

    AD&D 2E Edition Experience - Did/Do you Play AD&D 2E? How Was/Is It?

This is the one I played in college. I joined a long-running campaign that had been going roughly nearly 20years when I signed on in ~1995. So in truth, what the DM ran at the table was really more like a massive tangle of houserules, with a healthy sprinkling of 2e mixed in. ;)

    D&D and the rising pandemic

I don't think anyone knows for sure one way or the other. So the more conservative assumption for now is that it does not work, and to act accordingly, until enough data has been collected/studied to know for sure.

    D&D and the rising pandemic

I don't follow. You find what hard to believe? That nearly 200 people per day could be dying of covid in their homes in NYC and going uncounted due to lack of tests (first quote)? Or that 9 in 10 cases are unreported (second quote)?

    EN World Wait, what's this?

I've been browsing the dark mode and really appreciate it so far. The only issue I'm seeing is that hyperlinked text doesn't appear to be differentiated from other text. (In light mode it's black normal text and blue hyperlinks; in dark mode it seems to be white for both.) Does anyone else...
