D&D 5E (2014) Healing Surges, Hit Dice, Martial Healing, and Overnight recovery: Which ones do you like?

Correct. Actually, I play 1E. Correct. Because any published module will assume the party is at full health, ergo all encounters will be balanced for a party with access to all spells and at full hit points. Any party NOT using fast healing and at will magic will be at a distinct...

D&D 5E (2014) Healing Surges, Hit Dice, Martial Healing, and Overnight recovery: Which ones do you like?

That is not a factor of 3rd edition. No one has ever HAD to play a cleric. The game functions fine without them, it functions fine when a cleric is played as the defender of the faith and prepares very few or no healing spells. And it functions fine with a "healbot" if that's how you like to...

D&D 5E (2014) Healing Surges, Hit Dice, Martial Healing, and Overnight recovery: Which ones do you like?

No. I highly doubt fast healing fits "most" playstyles. I run a game every week. There is no dedicated healer. I do not adjust encounters based on party composition. The game works as intended. Fast hp recovery can be an option for those who want to plow through every encounter at full...

Pathfinder 1E How do you keep spellcasting slaves from casting spells?

Tie them up, gag them. Break their fingers. Play rap music all night so they cannot rest and recover spells. Poison oak on the tongue. Cast silence on a rock and stick it up, er somewhere uncomfortable. Lots of ways. Use your imagination.

D&D 5E (2014) How do you feel now that the game is 97% done

There's no option for: it's a complete waste of money and does not even remotely deserve having "D&D" on the cover.

    Dungeons?

Maybe 30. It varies by adventure. Could be as many as 100% or as little as 0. On average, though, I'd say about 30%. I'm old school, though. random encounters are a big part of my campaign.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana on the horizon... recollections and suggestions?

I run 1e and I cherry pick from UA. I ban all the subraces, cavaliers, the broken UA stat generation method, and weapon specialization. In a high stat game, I'd also ban the barbarian. A barbarian with a 15 dex, and 16 con is not all that powerful, considering the exp needed to level. A...

Thief Abilities – Static Progression or Player Distributed Progression

I prefer first edition simply for ease of use. If I needa roll hidden from the player, I just look at the dm screen and roll behind it. If I need an npc thief skill check, it's right there.

Or the 13 dex halfling can use his 66% chance to surprise opponents.

Science Fiction in Your Fantasy Game?

This. My earliest readings were of this nature. Phillip Jose Farmer and what have you.

    D&D 5E (2014) Are you ready for a new edition of D&D?

Yes. I've been waiting for a new edition since about 1983.

Bards thoughout the ages (what is a bard)?

That was in part to represent the journey of a medieval craftsman, artist, musician. 7 years as an apprentice, 5-7 (depending on the trade) as a journeyman before becoming a master and getting a guild invite.

    D&D 5E (2014) What I Miss From 1st Ed

Yes. I generally use the spells and magic items from UA, but nothing else.

    D&D 5E (2014) What I Miss From 1st Ed

I take it you never played an illusionist or druid. Consider: A magic user gets his max spell level at 18th level and 3,000,001 exp. An illusionist at 14th level and 1,320,001 exp. Don't make the mistake that the illusionist and druid, and the cleric for that matter, being limited to level 7...

    Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

The thing is, they didn't just go out and murder someone. They asked for help, and were denied, so they entered anyway. Then they came under fire and returned it in kind. So I don't see it as an evil act. An unlawful act, sure. Absolutely. And I'd hope it never came to that, but I have...
