D&D 4E Keith Baker on 4E! (The Hellcow responds!)

Exactly! That's what I was getting at.

D&D 4E Keith Baker on 4E! (The Hellcow responds!)

This isn't an argument against 4e. I like that it is going that way. This is against 3.x, which made you build unrealistic NPC's just to get a couple bonuses where you wanted them to be.

D&D 4E Keith Baker on 4E! (The Hellcow responds!)

Because ALL the rules don't apply ALL the time. Sometimes you only need the NPC to have certain abilities. Why not just give them what they need? This is one of the aspects that turned me on to Savage Worlds. They specifically tell you in the rulebook "Don't follow character creation for...

    Crunch vs. fluff in supplements

Earthdawn rocks! I agree, Reynard. Earthdawn was an awesome game. I have been reading over some of my 1e ED books again, contemplating creating a similar type setting for Savage Worlds.

    Crunch vs. fluff in supplements

It would be nice if more companies did things like Pirates Guide to Freeport so that people can easily adapt it to their rules system of choice. There are a lot of good ideas out there that aren't always easily divorced from a game setting. They generally only sell to players of one system...

    Recommend an exploration adventure?

Dungeon 114 updated X1 to 3.5e sort of. It's called Tides of Dread and is based off the original module, not a direct conversion. The issue also has a backdrop article on the Isle. It's well worth looking into. If you have a copy of X1 to supplement it with, it's all the better.

    Super undead creator maintainer thingy

Shilsen, that is very, very evil. Especially if it raises anyone who dies in the complex. I like it. Jdrakeh, do you happen to remember what Palladium book that Ultimax Deathstone is in? I have access to some of those. I may try to look that up.

    Super undead creator maintainer thingy

That sounds kind of interesting. I was doing some thinking, and thought he could just use the Eldritch Machine idea from Eberron. Just make it do whatever he wants and not worry about the game effects.

Dungeon Tiles 6 - Dire Tombs

Cool! That is what I am looking for. I may have to pick them up. I have some of the others, but they don't quite work for this one.

Dungeon Tiles 6 - Dire Tombs

Anybody have these yet? I was wondering what they are like? I am getting to run an adventure in the Rippers setting for Savage Worlds where the PCs enter an ancient Egyptian tomb (the Black Ankh for those who know it) and was wondering if these tiles might be of use. I don't know if it's...

    Super undead creator maintainer thingy

I got the following email from a friend of mine, and I am asking the collective brain here at ENWorld for some help. "Ok. So here's the deal. I have a section in a dungeon that I am creating where I want a friggin' butt-load of orc undead that are either just huddled around this obelisk (or...

    My first Savage Worlds experience...

I am new to the system myself (we have played 3 sessions of the Rippers campaign so far), and am loving it! I want to do a fantasy campaign next, so I'm curious how it handles fantasy. Please post notes on your game. Thanks!

    Eberron -> Savage Worlds conversion!

I am also new to Savage Worlds (have run two sessions) and love it! I think it is perfect for Eberron and have been thinking about converting it myself. I will try and help contribute but work, school, and my 3-month old son don't leave me much free time!

Has the "Delve" format worked for you?

I'm not too keen on the new format either. Like others have said, it reduces the adventure to a lot of set piece battles. This can be cool for certain encounters, but not the whole adventure! The way WotC is talking about their new adventure design (i.e. taking it out of the rooms and into...

    Savage Worlds - battlemat required?

I like the substitution ideas. They make more sense. Just being adjacent shouldn't necessarily mean you should gain an advantage. I think I will use those! Don't have the Rippers Companion yet. I'm waiting to see how the game goes, and make sure the group likes the rules/setting. It looks...

    Savage Worlds - battlemat required?

I am getting ready to start my first Savage Worlds campaign in a couple weeks, using the Rippers setting. I know the rules say that a battlemat helps, but I am wondering how necessary it is. I would prefer not to use one, but didn't know how easy it would be to leave it out.

Desert of Desolation series - individual modules or mega-adventure

I have heard a lot of good things about these adventures, but never got the chance to play/run them. Now my FLGS has parts 2 and 3 of the individual modules for $5 a piece. They also have the mega-adventure for $30. Which version is better? Is there anything extra in the mega adventure that...

Star Wars Saga RPG: Square Book? WTF

Someone on the WotC boards suggested they made it square so that when you open it, it has a widescreen-type effect. Might be cool if there are any double page pictures.
