Finalized Hybrid Rules - What's new?

From what I read, and testing in the character builder, it looks like fractional hp is just figured out at char creation, and then rounded down. So a Swordmage|Warlock gets 5.5-> 5hp per level. Not 11 per 2 levels. I don't understand why they can't allow fractional hp on leveling... If someone...

    Swordmage / Paladin hybrid cheese?

Yes, I would. Anyway, I just reread the thread... and I think the player is probably misunderstanding some things and will re-evaluate the choice once it's cleared up. Aegis of Assault and Divine Challenge cannot be on the same target, and you can't even use both in the same round if they are...

    Swordmage / Paladin hybrid cheese?

That's... not what anyone said. Depending on what you're going for, the swordmage mark is pretty good. The big thing here is that the swordmage mark doesn't lose a whole lot when you switch to hybrid.

    Swordmage / Paladin hybrid cheese?

Any chance you could ask the player for his intended build? I'm thinking he'll lean more towards that warlock PP which gives 18-20 crits on radiant attacks.

    Swordmage / Paladin hybrid cheese?

This is essentially the same cheese as Swordmage|Warlock with eldritch strike, so I'm going to compare the two. S|W Pros: More damage due to warlock curse on aegis of assault target. Better stat synergy (Int and Cha/Int) More teleport synergy from paragon path. More strikery. S|P Pros: More...

    Race Elimination "Semi-final"

As of this posting, Eladrin have less votes than elves and halflings. I *cannot* express how happy this makes me. Out of the 4 left, the only one IMO with any flavor or interesting mechanic is the Eladrin. Back to LOTR with the rest of you!

Eladrin are far more interesting than elves. Out with ye forest dwellers, in with ye fey nightcrawlers.

    D&D 4E Chaos Beast in 4e?

Sure there is. Instead of the plane of chaos, tie it to the far realm.

    Are you a refluffer?

By this logic, monsters which do 1d8 slashing melee damage should have longsword claws. How would you even know the quality of the weapon. Maybe the primitives are just stronger than your character, thus compensating for their inferior weaponry. It *would* be immersive and fun if one scavenged...

    Are you a refluffer?

D&D isn't the real world. The rules are not theories developed, refined, and accepted through empirical observation. The rules are made up to provide a groundwork conducive to fun. As previously stated, changing the fluff is *within the rules*. Even if it weren't explicitly stated as alright...

    Are you a refluffer?

This is exactly why you don't let the players see your DM notes. If you keep things "under the hood" then you get the "cool" from the description and lose the "lame" from inconsistent mechanics. I'd be more displeased if, as a player, I went up against a fearsome primitive tribe, and they were...

    Are you a refluffer?

Completely disagree, but I suppose this is a matter of what the game is to you. If the game is a tactical simulator, then being able to easily identify threats is extremely important. If the game is a way to tell a story about "real" characters, then refluffing the familiar to induce a sense...

    Raiding vs. tabletopping

The rest of the post was decent, but this is bollocks. Ulduar was difficult when it first came out. I'd be surprised if many people successfully PUG it even now. Even Emalon, the "easy" boss of that patchset, destroyed so many failpugs.

    Raiding vs. tabletopping

When I was playing WoW, 5-mans would take from 15 minutes to 1hr, depending on the dungeon and my group. Naxxramas started out as a 4 hour ordeal, and just before Ulduar was released, we had gotten it down to 2 hours (both for 10 man and 25 man). My raiding group was pretty tight though. Before...

Where Have All the Ki-Rins Gone, or a Very Beastie Christmas

I was making a sideways reference. In Dwarf Fortress, merman bones are the most valuable bone material in the game... on par with dragon bones IIRC. Some players have tried to set up elaborate mechanisms to drain the ocean in order to harvest those bones. Google search if you want to read some...

    Siloing: Good or Bad?

Siloing is good! I've been playing Dragon Age lately. Rogues in that game have to spend talent points to gain increased ability to lockpick. Since those talents aren't being spent to improve combat effectiveness, I end up leaving my lockpicking rogue at camp when clearing out the dungeon, and...
