D&D 5E (2024) Should a general Adventurer class be created to represent the Everyman?

That's kinda what I was thinking. The stereotypical halfling/hobbit isn't the sneaky death merchant of the 5.5e rogue nor the tough trained murder machine of the 5.5e fighter but that ally who you know can success at that one thing you really need and provides one of your party's roles with...

D&D 5E (2024) Should a general Adventurer class be created to represent the Everyman?

The GEC is a survivor and dabbler. Rather than intense training or advanced study, a GEC's adventuring skill is formed by its learned experience added by its fortitude to live through those experiences A GEC might be born lucky under a fortunate star, the subject of a prophecy, the inheritor of...

D&D 5E (2024) Should a general Adventurer class be created to represent the Everyman?

Let's face it The fighter is no longer the Everyman. The fighter class has represented a well trained hardened warrior for 25 years now. 2024 went even further by giving them Weapon Masteries that enforce that focus and training. The baker or farmhand who follows the ragtag group of...

D&D 5E (2024) Fixing ranger with higher level mark spells.

Gloom Stalker's Mark 2nd level Illusion Casting Time: 1 bonus action Range: 90 feet Target: A creature that you can see within range Components: V Duration: 1 hour Classes: Ranger You choose a creature you can see within range and mystically mark it as your quarry. Until the spell ends, the...

Dungeons & Dragons Announces Horror Subclasses Unearthed Arcana

The fact that 6 of those spells are similar seems consistent. Ensnaring Strike is the odd one out. With the big animal spells gone I really can't see the extreme drive for using 2 buff/debuff outside of the desire to cheese.

Dungeons & Dragons Announces Horror Subclasses Unearthed Arcana

I was talking about combat spells with concentration. That's only 6-7 good ones before splatbooks. Again Ranger combat spells with concentration. There are only 6-7 good ones. Not "I can't do anything because Hunter's Mark" that many claim.

Still most. The only spells on the base ranger better than HM are Spike Growth Summon Beasts Conjure Animals Summon Fey Conjure Woodland Beings Summon Elemental Ensnaring Strike is iffy. It's a strong debuff that synergyizes with Hunter's Mark very well. That's it. It's mostly summons and...

Dungeons & Dragons Announces Horror Subclasses Unearthed Arcana

The truth is most of the other concentration spells that are combat aren't better than HM. You wouldn't really cast them outside of the niche situations where they are good or if you are blatantly trying to cheese them (Spike growth dragging, Conjure aura multihits). The '24 Ranger has enough...

Dungeons & Dragons Announces Horror Subclasses Unearthed Arcana

Hunter's Mark is a spell. The issue is fans want to run 2 buff/debuff/summon spells at once for cheap which is against the whole spell philosophy of 5e. The trick is that fans must make a compromise to run multiple buffs, debuffs, and summons at once. Hollow Warden and Winter Warrior just...

Dungeons & Dragons Announces Horror Subclasses Unearthed Arcana

Melee ranger has so many uses of FE and slots that concentration isn't an issue. And this Subclass add WIS to AC and con saving throws. Ranged ranger is still one of the best and reliable damage dealers, a great skill monkey, and the only viable melee/ranged switch hitters besides champion...

Dungeons & Dragons Announces Horror Subclasses Unearthed Arcana

Ranger is the best class Tier 1 and 2. It isn't until level 10 do issues so up and it's only damage.

Typing that right there is why Ranger is Hunter's Mark based.

Dungeons & Dragons Announces Horror Subclasses Unearthed Arcana

Blame 2 groups 1) People who refuse to do alterations or conversions and demanded 2024 be 99% backwards compatible. 2) Powergaming Munchkins who would abuse Hunter's Mark if you offered any freedom on Hunter's Mark before Tier 3. Ranger is held hostage by powergamers and people who can't talk...

Dungeons & Dragons Announces Horror Subclasses Unearthed Arcana

I think Artificer might get core book treatment in 6e. Hollow Warden being the defense focused obviously primal tank Ranger subclass like the 4e Warden is hilarious

    D&D 5E (2024) Martial/Caster fix.

Separating the Champion out into it's own class and creating a simple caster variant would be my preference as well. But that is a 6e thing.

    D&D 5E (2024) Martial/Caster fix.

Personally I wasn't thinking more like a Warlock with default Pact Magic but more Invocations. I always imagine a Chosen class or an even more generic Adventurer class with it's own internal feat-like system where you can customize your PC. You can take Cantrip Master for cantrips, Agonizing...

    D&D 5E (2024) Martial/Caster fix.

I agree. Tactical Mind is VERY powerful at low levels if you are rolling only a few ability checks per day. Once you get to level 5, Expertise is close enough to be better without costing resources. But that's 1 Warrior out of the 3. The Experts (Bard, Ranger, Rogue) are only average better...

D&D 5E (2014) I feel like the surveys gaslit WotC about """"Backwards Compatibility""""

4E really felt like it wanted an management app to handle the powers and conditions on the player side. Ironically it was on of the easiest editions to run as a DM but hardest to manage as a player.

D&D 5E (2014) I feel like the surveys gaslit WotC about """"Backwards Compatibility""""

I misspoke. 4E needed a VTT to handle the powers and the tracking of buffs and debuffs which would clog up the leaders and controllers of later years.
