No, I was responding to the comment that suggested raising AC a few points instead of having higher HP. So it is entirely relevant to discuss why higher AC is not good for those who don’t want to have magic items.

Were 9/23 =23-9=14/20=70% miss or 30% hit. I could be wrong, math is not my thing I could easily be off by 5% or so, I always forget which way to apply the hit

9/20 =45% to hit ; if you up the AC by a few points it is 9/23 =30% to hit. 30% is less fun than 45%. Of course at that level (15) you could see monsters with AC 22, so a few points higher might get you 9/25 =20%

You might look at the arch hag in the new MM, it had some interesting curses IIRC

Not really, if you wanted the game to work well without needing magic items (which is a goal I thought they might ditch for 5e24 but thankfully didn’t) then adding some HP is the better way to go.

You could also have a stable natural dungeon ecology that only had to deal with pesky adventures once every generation or so. They l idea that there are hundreds or even thousands of adventurers running around raiding dungeons is a very foreign concept in the D&D games I’ve played

Maybe, not my experience though. Of course we only have one caster in our group. In fact, he usually goes with damage spells because monsters always seem to shrug off condition inflicting spells (ie they make a lot of saves)

My local FLGs in the Midwest (USA) is out of the PHB and MM, but they have the DMG. I asked and they said they can’t keep up with demand. I don’t know if that is because they can’t get enough or they are selling so fast.
