Maybe, not my experience though. Of course we only have one caster in our group. In fact, he usually goes with damage spells because monsters always seem to shrug off condition inflicting spells (ie they make a lot of saves)

I don't like single target save or suck. Also target the right saves.

I like twinned spells, upcast level 1 spells and things like slow.

I don’t play spell casters, not sure what you’re talking about
He likes playing a sorcerer with the Twinned Spell metamagic ability. That way he can target two opponents with spells such as Slow.
  • Twinned Spell. When you cast a spell that targets only one creature and doesn't have a range of self, you can spend a number of sorcery points equal to the spell's level to target a second creature in range with the same spell (1 sorcery point if the spell is a cantrip). To be eligible, a spell must be incapable of targeting more than one creature at the spell's current level. For example, magic missile and scorching ray aren't eligible, but ray of frost and chromatic orb are.

Heh heh... the biggest issue of 5E according to the myriad of posters that were ranting and raving about the game when it first came out 10 years ago were the Sharpshooter and Great Weapon Master feats. Back in 2014 and 2015 those were the two things that were going to kill the game dead, if the game-balance stans were going to be believed. And 5E24 addressed both of them. So in fact the game is appreciably better than 5E14 for that reason alone.
Those feats were overpowered because of petty ACs. I have upped many ACs of monsters and the problem got solved. They are still strong but not broken. Hit point inflation is the easiest and the cheapest/stupidest way of 'correcting' things. It is the solution a 10-year old would give.

You can get similar numbers now without the -5 part. Vicious weapon+great weapon master feat. Or dual wielding smiting paladin.
Exactly. That's why I say 5.5 addressed almost none of the problems of 5th edition. I think many problems come from the fact that they wanted each class to play only 1-2 roles (which is DIFFERENT from classes having discrete roles). Yes, it came with some fixes, like Witch Bolt (although the part that allows you to do damage on misses is lame and stupid), but generally fell really sort.

Not really, if you wanted the game to work well without needing magic items (which is a goal I thought they might ditch for 5e24 but thankfully didn’t) then adding some HP is the better way to go.
