How do you like your Monster Manuals?

As a DM who often runs games on the fly at games shops, at friends' houses, the MMIV statted monsters have been extraordinarily valuable. Sure, I've got a slew of sheets of statted out Orcs and the like tucked in the back of my MMI, but being able to just pull a statted/classed monster out of...

Requests in Dragon Letters column to go online/disk *in the 80s*

It is interesting... The thought re: this in the late 80s was less about environmentalism and more about taking advantage of a burgeoning medium. Our thoughts now are more about the burgeoning medium, with environmentalism and nostalgia as conflicting secondary thoughts. (Not all of us - just...

Requests in Dragon Letters column to go online/disk *in the 80s*

Yeah, I remember AOL Keyword "TSR" - they'd post a few articles, and you could download them. For a while, users could upload content, too. But yeah - they kept printing the magazines, too. ;)

Requests in Dragon Letters column to go online/disk *in the 80s*

LOL - if that guy's on the boards now, I hope he steps forward. ;) Duck! here comes a tomato! ;)

Requests in Dragon Letters column to go online/disk *in the 80s*

In light of all that's afoot with Dragon and Dungeon, I thought it might be interesting to post some stuff I remembered reading back in the day: From issue 122: I would like to present an idea of mine in this column. There have been many people writing to DRAGON Magazine concerning how they...

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

Well, I know a lot of us are looking forward to more Gord. Good luck with it, Gary. I hope we see more Gord not just in novel form but also shorter pieces in Dragon and such. :)

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

Ah-whah?!? Wasn't the return of Gord story a huge hit in the magazine? I mean, at least the letters columns and boards were humming... You and K.R. Bourgoine did a great job with that one - I was hoping for more. I hope Paizo reconsiders and gets more of Gord back in circulation...

    Gamma World

Say, I'm slowly getting back in to Gamma World (after watching the Omega Man last weekend, to be honest). Reading through the d20 stuff, but also found a lot of the original versions available from sellers online (including enworld!). Any suggestions about how to run the campaign or...

Can anyone recommend a Sci-Fi/Future game?

Getting in to Gamma World, myself - kind of a nostalgia trip for the 80s version, but the d20 version is so far pretty neat. Not quite as cartoony as the original, but fun. If you're into postapocalyptic stuff, it's worth checking out - can even get some of the stuff through the enworld shop...

    Does your group costume?

We play this d20 Modern game called "Papers and Paychecks" where we pretend to be accountants, programmers, and folks who work at retail stores, and then we really try to dress the part. ;) (Yes, random reference to that cartoon from DMG 1E...)

Ptolus Ptips? Starting up a campaign...

Fwiw, I found the Ghostly Minstrel inn to be a good home base when I ran my first session in Ptolus, yesterday. The depth of the shopkeepers in Delver's Square and the other districts exceeds that of a lot of the city settings I've used before (1e Waterdeep, 3.5e Waterdeep, Sharn). The more I...

Ptolus Ptips? Starting up a campaign...

Thanks, folks. Basically, I'm just curious as to which bits of the book are best to use off the bat. There's a ton of material, and I've studied through it like a college text book, but basically, I was looking to see what folks have done so far with the campaign (e.g. use the scenarios from...

    Cheating and D&D

I pulled a total "Ah-HA!" with pointed finger and all at a player recently who I caught cheating. I wouldn't have cared as much as the fact that he's the party rules lawyer, so it was a nice little paradox he had going there...

    David Noonan on D&D Complexity

"magical arms race". Good one. I like that and will use it in tomorrow's game with the munchkins in my group. I will sanction them accordingly. ;)

Ptolus Ptips? Starting up a campaign...

Sorry for the Ptolus pun. Anyway, starting up a campaign in Ptolus for my usual gang of players. Curious who's dived into the mammoth setting yet, and if they had any tips for a DM. I'll be starting with the adventures from the book, if only just to use what's there and focus my prep time on...

    Unsatisfactory BBEG Fight?

Ohhhhh, been there done that. That's what BBEG henchmen are for. That and changing his stats on the fly. I've built mods where the BBEG made sense at EL 15 at the start, but the characters picked up a level and munchkined to where EL 18 would be more appropriate. No harm changing...
