    D&D 5E (2014) Mechanizing Alignment

As I would see it, using the aforementioned mechanism increases the likelihood of the players actually utilizing the alignment system and it significantly changes the way of how they can do so. It no longer is just an obscure framework, that, at best, fuels a debate on why the paladin can never...

    D&D 5E (2014) Mechanizing Alignment

John Wick, in his take on reforming D&D in "Santa Vaca - A Hack of the Worlds Most Popular RPG" on alignment: http://johnwickpresents.com/updates/santa-vaca-adjusting-your-alignment/ He proposes a system where a player can allocate 5 points into Lawful, Chaotic, Good and Evil. According to the...

D&D General A simple tool to collaboratively create RPG rumors.

Awesome, all approved. There are a total of 22 rumors so far. Also fixed a small bug I found.

D&D General A simple tool to collaboratively create RPG rumors.

Yesterday night I had an idea for an application that would allow it for people to look at RPG rumors online to spice up their game and get some inspiration. I know that there are random generators out there that sort of do this already. But I wanted more variety than just stuff being rolled on...

WotC More info on Baldur's Gate 3 coming February 27 2020

Fair enough. However, team and leader does not equal two individuals that want to lead in their own right. Time will tell how this will work in the case of BG3. I still have a feeling that Mearls and Vicke are not compatible but I won't mind being proven wrong.

WotC More info on Baldur's Gate 3 coming February 27 2020

Can you give me some examples? I highly doubt that, especially since strong visions are unlikely to be congruent, therefore being more harmful than good to each other.

WotC More info on Baldur's Gate 3 coming February 27 2020

I really doubt that this is a good thing. Too many chefs spoil the dish, especially when you have a visionary developer such as Swen Vincke paired with a guy like Mearls who undoubtedly wants to put his signature on the game.

D&D General How Was Your Last Session?

I would change that on-the-fly. There is nothing forcing you to stick with a broken mechanic once you discover it during play (especially if you have 10 rounds to adjust and it is that important, being detrimental to a story finale)... I wonder why you did.

    D&D 5E (2014) Why sleeping shouldn't be a long rest

They complained, because in a certain subset mode of play (low frequency encounter days), they were always overpowered compared to the other classes. And I brought them back to the level of power they ought to have, according to the DMG, which is 6-8 encounters without a long rest, across any...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why sleeping shouldn't be a long rest

Meant to be played, as in, according to how WotC describes it in the DMG and clearly balanced the mechanics around. What you seem to find confusing is me, describing how I feel the DMG guidelines are impacting the game, that I used to run in a different way. If I understand your approach...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why sleeping shouldn't be a long rest

I have to disagree with this one. Ever since I stick to the DMG guidelines, aka. 6-8 medium to hard encounters per long rest, the difficulty has increased significantly. And this exactly is why it got harder, I nerfed my casters to the point where I actually follow the rules of the DMG...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why sleeping shouldn't be a long rest

Did your party ever try to go to bed after just waking up recently? Then you might be interested in this. The DMG on p. 84 suggests six to eight encounters of medium to hard difficulty per adventuring day. Since I often need to be flexible when it comes to the amounts of encounters per in-game...

    D&D 5E (2014) Understanding the maths behind 5e

I have a question regarding the EBP formula for party sizes <3 and >5. The DMG on p.83 states: This should alter the formula of how EBP are calculated for said party sizes, correct?

    D&D 5E (2014) Understanding the maths behind 5e

Thanks for elaborating, I appreciate it. For Level 1 the numbers match well. But if you take 1x Level 15 PC for instance: EBP with your original approach: Easy / Medium / Hard / Deadly 31 46 61 77 EBP as in "PC_EBP =~ 2/9 * PC_XP^(2/3)": 27,8 44,1 58,8 76,6 Not an incredible...

    D&D 5E (2014) Understanding the maths behind 5e

Isn't this reflected in the "XP Thresholds by Character Level" (DMG p. 82) table? This should theoretically be a model of what an average party can handle. If you take that table into consideration when calculating Party EBP with your model, rather than assuming 4x lvl X PCs => 1x CR X is a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Understanding the maths behind 5e

Wouldn't you have to model every class / build to get an accurate picture though? Or is there an underlying pattern that can be used? Couldn't one just model the "XP Thresholds by Character Level" on DMG p. 82 to get a more accurate player EBP? WotC must have based that table on something...

    D&D 5E (2014) Understanding the maths behind 5e

While playing around with the numbers I noticed that there are some inconsistencies with the rule: A CR X monster is a medium challenge for 4 * lvl X PCs I am not sure if that rule is actually stated somewhere in the DMG or if it's just in my imagination. Example: A level 15 PCs XP...

    D&D 5E (2014) Understanding the maths behind 5e

I tested this workaround and it works reasonably well for party sizes <4. But sometimes you just want to build a solo monster for a >4 player party and then it doesn't work anymore.
