Just had an odd thought while reading through this thread--and probably not a very good one at that. But here goes, in the hopes in might somehow spark a more useful idea... A character rolls a d20 and adds the ones digit from his ability. Furthermore, for every 10 FULL points in the ability...

My sympathies :( I still feel the loss of my original dice, with the numbers so lovingly painted in to provide contrast, and half of the d10 painted a different color to simulate a d20. I can still picture them, though I haven't actually seen them in over 12 years...

Let's see... STR: 16 DEX: 11 CON: 11 INT: 13 WIS: 13 CHA: 11 hmmm... I probably would have given myself 1 less in STR, 2 more in DEX and CON, 2 or 3 more in INT, and 1 or 2 less in WIS and CHA.

I voted for Greyhawk, but I also game in Mystara--though I doubt purists would recognize either. Beyond the maps, and the general location/composition of societies, I all but ignore published material in shaping my campaigns--and I certainly don't pay any attention to "official" timelines...
