Complete Divine Info Here - Scoop from RPGA

True enough, but I usually have a hard time convincing a player to CHOOSE cleric... I suppose I'm just sick of "crunch". It's an escalation of power, with each new book trying to top the last book. The contents of a book have to be percieved as valuable in order for a player to purchase it...

Complete Divine Info Here - Scoop from RPGA

Humph. From what I've seen, I won't be allowing much if anything from the Divine book. I only used one or two things from the Warrior book. Arcane healing is anathema to me. I hate the theory that all classes should be doing all things. Let the healers heal, the fighters fight and the...

    Mind Blank vs Smite

Hehee... Actually, I'm the DM... and I've got an epic level paladin who will smack the tar out of the BBG. As I'd like the big battle to be a challenge, I figured I'd try and find a way for the BBG to temporarily negate that nasty Smite. Plus, the whole party has super-ultra-mega-holy...

    Mind Blank vs Smite

Ahh, but if someone is using a flaming weapon, there's a way to defend against that - energy resistance. If someone is using a holy weapon against you, how can you defend against that (short of not being hit)?

    Mind Blank vs Smite

Hmm, let me ask this though: Everyone seems to agree that Smite goes off against "evil" targets, but simply has no affect. So at some point, the Smite ability must ascertain whether the target is in fact "evil". Doesn't it stand to reason that if a target cannot be defined as "evil" (even...

    Mind Blank vs Smite

OK, here's an off-the-wall question: Does a Mind Blank spell foil a paladin's Smite? Reasons for: 1) Mind Blank foils all detection (like alignment), including Wish when used for that purpose. 2) If a creature can't be defined as "evil" then Smite won't work. Reasons against: 1) A...

Need something nasty to do to a scryer

IMC, the party scried on an epic-level demi-lich. The demi-lich had developed an epic spell that allows him to cast Finger of Death back through a scry portal when detected. The wizard doing the scry got a nasty surprise, but he survived the encounter. It did disuade him from scrying on that...

Players who think your game is Survivor the RPG

I love Diplomacy, and games like it. One of my favorite games is a card game called "Illuminati: New World Order" by Steve Jackson. That game is centered around making deals and screwing people. When I play, I appreciate the art of the game, regardless of the outcome. I've been royally...

How do I avoid getting Stoned...

Well, then... I'm 0 for 2. :( I suppose I shouldn't do rules posting without my books here at work for reference!

How do I avoid getting Stoned...

I can't recall if the stalks are SU or Spell-like... Were SU not dispellable in 3.0? I may just be losing my mind...

How do I avoid getting Stoned...

Don't forget the often-overlooked Dispel Magic! Remember that you can dispel any spell with a duration longer than "instantaneous"... and I believe Flesh to Stone has a duration of "Permanent".

What's the best direct-damage spell to use against a foe with uber saving throws?

If you are limited to 7th level because that's the highest you can cast, I might suggest a scroll of Polar Ray. Sure, it's 8th level - and there's a small chance it might not work. But if it does, that's 20d6 - no save (but there is a Touch attack roll). Even a Rogue maxed out in Use...

How do you RP a Wis: 74 and Cha: 60?

What you need are some reference points by which to guide you. Be Mr. Miyagi (from the Karate Kid!) + (George Clooney * Bill Clinton). Perhaps add in a dash of that guy who sells the Mogwai at the beginning of the movie Grimlins for flavor. Just remember that you are wise - not smart...

    Character-driven or Reactive?

I ran a 3-year campaign, successfully, that was very plot-driven. The players knew about the idea of the campaign going into it, and everyone loved it. But at the conclusion of the campaign, I started asking for feedback about what they would like in the next one, and what they didn't really...

    UA and Alternate XP Systems

Even though they get the same XP values, wouldn't they level faster since it takes much less XP to gain levels lower than the party? That's nothing that a good whack with a DMG and continous pelting with d20s won't fix. :) Plus, the availability of tribes of low-level guys is limited to where...

    UA and Alternate XP Systems

Ok, that sounds good so far! What about high party levels vs low CR monsters? My current party is avg level 20th. Do you not award XP for monsters of CR 12th or lower (or so, I can't remember off hand where the standard table cuts off XP)? Or do you feel the lower XP values balance out...

    UA and Alternate XP Systems

So, is anyone using the Level-Independant XP system from UA? If you've not seen it, it's like 2nd edition, where each monster gives a discrete XP value, as opposed to the XP value you get from cross-referencing the party's level and the CR. So, if you have, what do you think? I'm considering...

True Seeing vs Mindblank + Polymorph

Yeah, I can see there's no clear-cut solution to this one... Since there's ways to detect alignments, there's ways to foil that detection. That goes for any other spell that reveals secret or hidden information. But I just couldn't find a spell that prevents the detection of Polymorph...

True Seeing vs Mindblank + Polymorph

I do believe that Nondetection refers only to methods that detect your location. It seems odd that there's no way to prevent the detection of a polymorphed creature - Mind Blank would be the most likely candidate to fill that role. I supppose I'll need to break out Rule 0 for this one...

True Seeing vs Mindblank + Polymorph

So if Mind Blank isn't the spell to prevent the detection of a polymorphed creature, what spell (or item) would? It might also be interesting to note that True Seeing is a Wiz6/clr5 spell, and Mind Blank is Wiz8... It seems that on that basis, it's entirely plausable that Mind Blank could...
