    First GenCon in 20 years

Are you going for 4 days? I find it hard to get into the more popular games if you have not signed up for them in advance. If you're only going for a day, one game is fine, but at a miniumum, I'd preregister for one game a day. Suggestion: don't TAKE FOOD AND WATER, the convention center asks...

    Registration Experience (Good or bad?)

Worry! I had several tickets in my cart at least twice. When I was dropped, it dumped my cart. Also, if it doesn't dump your cart, I wont be surprised if the tickets aren't your until you check out. I'm trying to get into True Dungeon. There are only three or four slots that work well for...

    GenCon - Decision Day

It's decision day. Tomorrow we all start registering for our GenCon trips and I'm making my final plans today. So, I need some help from GenCon veterans. I've gone to GenCon several times every few years for a day or so. Last year I went for one day (Thursday) on a last minute trip. It was...

    The most powerful class?

I'd really like to know where this is. Here is an article by Sean K. Reynolds where he makes several suggestions including: "Clerics don't get Shield Proficiency or Armor Proficiency (Heavy). I'm strongly tempted to knock down one of their saves, too,..." But I agree with the crowd, Cleric...

    Round 9 Is Over

CRAFT MAGIC ARMS AND ARMOR [ITEM CREATION] .... I think most item creation feats are a waste .... and MOUNTED COMBAT [GENERAL] .... most adventures do not take place while mounted. If you want to use this feat, really your entire party would need to be involved in mounted combat. -Swiftbrook

Defeated by puzzle - campaign over: Here is the offending puzzle!

I like puzzles. The 'puzzle' show though seems to have taken a lot of time. That's not fun for most players that I know. So if the puzzle is for the players and the players are not having fun, why have it. I'd just have my Wizard roll a skill check and be done with it. There are lots of...

Defeated by puzzle - campaign over: Here is the offending puzzle!

This is not a problem. I simply would REQUIRE the DM to set a DC vs my Wizards Int score to solve the puzzle. In almost any game, the Wizards Int is far higher than the player combined Int, it's just never used. We use our characters strength score to break down doors we could never hope to...

Spontaneous Divine Caster & Bonus Domain

Here's my dilema: One of my players has a cleric 6/radiant servant of pelor 5. We're using the Spontaneous Divine Casters rule from Unearthed Arcana. He just earned 5th level in the radiant servant PC. At that level he chose the Glory domain for his bonus domain. However, he already has a...

    d20 versus non d20

I think this is an age discriminating poll :) With 29+ years of gaming behind me, even with all the cool d20 stuff, I still have more non-d20 stuff. I have 30+ LBB (little black books) for Classic Traveller, before I start counting other Traveller books, MegaTraveller, D&D, AD&D, 2e AD&D...

    Races of the Wild

A casual gamer's review. I had heard good things about Races of Stone and also about this book, Race of the Wild, so I decided to pick it up. Races of the Wild is Wizards of the Coast third non-setting specific races book--Races of Stone and Races of Destiny are the other two. Races of the...

    Middle Earth - LotR

Restoring LotR Files So, who do we need to ask to have the various files/directories mentioned in this thread restored? ____________________ please restore the Lord of the Rings files/directories, at least for a while, so that we can access them and hopefully add to them. -Swiftbrook

    What are your favorite weapons?

One of my favorite 2e builds was a Ranger fighting with two weapons ... a Bastard Sword and a Sun Blade. Now could he dish out the dammage. 3e made the build more difficult, TWF has more penalties, Bastard Sword needs EWP. I guess you could just use 2 Sun Blades  -Swiftbrook

    What are your favorite weapons?

Bastard Sword. I play a ranger and I've used a Bastard Sword since 2e. Since I'm an archer, I don't have a shield thus I don't need the exotic weapon prof. since I use it two handed. -Swiftbrook

    Middle Earth - LotR

Steel Wind, thanks for the quick reply. The material looks interesting but I'm really looking for d20 stuff. I don't want to learn a new system, just want some setting/class/feat/Prestige class info for d20/dnd. -Swiftbrook

    Middle Earth - LotR

I'm looking for the Lord of the Rings/Middle Earth d20 site if there is one. I thought there was one hosted on ENWorld but I can't find it. Appologies if I'm blind. Also, is there an 'official' site, or just lots of fan d20 LotR sites? -Swiftbrook

Books pricing themselves out of reach?

That's absolutely a non-issue for me. With an RPG that I need, I need it here and I need to purchase it. With a novel, fantasy or otherwise, I simply check it of at the library. Cost to me, $0.00! I purchase very few novels, then at library book sales and rummage sales for 25 or 50 cents...
