Character survival beyond 1st level - how many survive, by level?

About 2/3. Spreadsheet interpolating AD&D statistics linked. http://www.superdan.net/download/demogrph.xls

How about a deadline to WotC?

The "random person" in question was Ryan Dancey, writing in the Open Game Definitions FAQ, published at Wizards.com: Open Game Definitions:Frequently Asked Questions So my point is this: You may not associate ethics with free RPG content. But the author of the OGL did; the head of WOTC did so...

How about a deadline to WotC?

Perhaps you should address that to the person or company who wrote this:

Which edition would best fit my playing style?

Uh, what? That doesn't match what I see in my copy of OD&D at all.

Do you like XP costs for magic item creation?

You don't see your "person" as synonymous with your "life", nor "power" as a synonym for "force"?

Do you like XP costs for magic item creation?

This isn't a case of "what to do", but rather "what it means". Delricho was responding to an assertion that "XP is in no way a measure of lifeforce", with rules observations that imply exactly that (OD&D-3E). A person can reasonably express dislike for it, or a proposal to change it. But when...

    Fixing Toughness

I guess I'll also throw out if people consider incorporating the "Masters of the Wild" feats as a better solution. - Dwarf's Toughness: Prereq Fort base +5; +6 hp. - Giant's Toughness: Prereq Fort base +8; +9 hp. - Dragon's Toughness: Prereq Fort base +11; +12 hp.

Do you like XP costs for magic item creation?

I can see you're not a good person to get in a discussion with. (a) I never said zero was a negative number. (b) Negative hit points are non-optional in 1E, 3E. Etc.

    Fixing Toughness

Added an edit above: This line of inquiry is in the context of just the core rules (no supplement feats, Improved Toughness, PHB2 retraining, etc.) My suggestions in the OP were for the entirety of the effect of Toughness (e.g. #1 -- +2hp/level; not 3 +2hp/level). I hadn't thought about...

Do you like XP costs for magic item creation?

You do die when you hit negative levels/XP (1E-3E; i.e. "below 1st level").

Which edition would best fit my playing style?

I voted OD&D. Although my Diminutive d20 rules were written with much the same motivation (maybe except "weird classes"; see link below).

Who actually USES alignment languages? How?

It's there in OD&D Vol. 1: I think the idea made more sense when there were just 3 "divisions" (Law, Chaos, Neutrality). Almost like a Cold War situation where 3 main factions are speaking mostly English, Russian, and Chinese. In a land of Chaos all the humanoids & evil men are speaking...

    Fixing Toughness

The Toughness Feat is infamous for being particularly weak. What are some ideas for fixing Toughness in a way that it's balanced with other feats? Here's two suggestions: (1) Toughness grants an added 2 hit points per level. (2) Toughness grants an added 3 hit points, +1 per level. (I figure...

Do you like XP costs for magic item creation?

I thought XP costs made a lot of sense. I was delighted by the elegance when I first opened the 3E books. I definitely see levels/XP as "life force", in the same way that they're drained by undead; and so a reasonable drain when making magic items. My main suprise was that I thought the XP...

    Star Frontiers? Gamma World?

Love Star Frontiers. Kudos to Doug Niles for two of the best miniatures gaming rules I ever owned. (1) Star Frontiers Knight Hawks. (2) Battlesystem 2nd Edition.

Anyone importing 4E’s’Used gear sells for 1/5th if at all’ to other RPG systems?

I agree with this. I can see 4E 20% "zero effort whatsoever" price. I can see 3E 50% "reasonable effort done off-screen" price. I think if you want to avoid an incentive for prolonged haggling sessions, the latter is the better mechanic.

    Restart From Last Save?

I don't accept it in a computer game. But for those who do, my guess is it's the difference between single-player and multiplayer. 5 players don't want to go through the same stuff because you died. You yourself might find that okay instead of being dead.

How about a deadline to WotC?

My understanding is the opposite. From Scott Rouse's last posts, it sounds like he's the only one who cares about it, and for the GSL to get updated he has to do the whole thing himself in his spare time at work (which he hasn't had).

Anyone importing 4E’s’Used gear sells for 1/5th if at all’ to other RPG systems?

Honestly, I find that to be interesting information. I'd also keep an open mind if other people had different real-world/medieval data. There was a time when real-world research was allowed to feed directly into D&D, and I found that to be a lot more rewarding.

Was Santa Claus the reason you started playing D&D?

Games Magazine. Great uncle gave me a subscription age ~10, 1980, and the editorials were raving about it (plus advertising). Requested it (Holmes basic) for my birthday.
