What Historical Analogous Era is your campaign set in?

The last D&D game I ran was 'middle antiquity' inspired, with many D&Disms creeping in.

    How Setting Faithful are You?

We usually homebrew settings in the group I game with, so a change in DM is a change in setting. Also we don't just do D&D so that's a change in setting too even more so.

    Speed Freak

Barbarian X/Sorcerer 1. Learn expeditious retreat and you'll have +40ft speed (I think barbarian is unamed speed boost). Take practiced caster later to increase duration of expeditious retreat. Being able to cast it 4 times a day should be enough with it's minute/level duration. As you're...

Starcraft RPG: Who would be interested?

If it was done well it might be interested, but I think I could put something together pretty well just using the d20 rules I already have.

    (My) Stats for a Sap?

I'm saying if we add special rules to allow a sap to more easily 1 hit KO why shouldn't other weapons do the same? Sure a sword would kill instead of merely knock uncouncious. What I'm saying is this is an issue with how hit points work and not with how the sap works. I'd recommend using a...

    (My) Stats for a Sap?

Doesn't a longsword also stand a reliable chance of dropping someone if I sneak up behind them and hit them with it on the head? Maybe it should get +2d6 sneak attack too.

    Best race for a bard?

Human or halfling. Elf isn't as good because of constituation penalty, dwarves and half-orcs have charisma penalties. That said as long as you have at least a 13 charisma at level 1 your bard will be fine. Just bump it up with ability boost. Often its more important as a bard to have well...

    Levels IRL

I would refer you to this article which tries in part to answer that question: http://www.thealexandrian.net/creations/misc/d&d-calibrating.html Really though its hard with any rule set to duplicate real life.

    (My) Stats for a Sap?

Make it a simple weapon then too. Its no longer worth being martial.

    Sneak Attack + Inflict Wounds?

Disarm your opponents don't sudner! That destroys your loot.

    Eberron: no sexism

Can't be too secret if female is the generic gender in the core books. Makes sense IMO, if a GM really wants sexist societies (like real life) he can add it to the game pretty easily. In fact I'd be surprised if there wasn't some sexism in most ebberron games given that real life is sexist.

    Deflect Arrows

That would be an awesome weapon, wonder how much it would cost. You could always just go back to the way it worked in 3.0. Or make it reflex DC 10/15/20/whatever+enhancment bonus+str. bonus (for mighty bows).

    Leadership Feat

It is more powerful than other feats if you allow the cohort to adventure with the party, even if you don't try to abuse the cohort there is no way that adding an extra PC classed character (even at -2 levels) is not better than nearly any other feat. This is particuarly true since the cohort...

    Sneak Attack + Inflict Wounds?

Very good idea. You could even switch to ranged touch attacks at the cost of duration if necessary to hit far off foes or better yet stay out of melee!

    True Specialists

I really like this idea kamikaze midget. Could be a really cool way of doing spell casting in a game, might be fun to replace to core casters and just use 'True Specialists' and see how it works out. I'm curious to see how you'll implement certain classes like the enchanter or the illusionist...

    Sneak Attack + Inflict Wounds?

He has to give up a full attack action. Even a level 20 rogue would only do 36 damage on average with this tactic. Which is nothing at level 20. On the other hand TWF rogue wielding 2 greater wounding shortswords making 5 or more attacks a round with haste is a real threat.

    Roleplaying your dump-stat

Not to derail the thread but House is also excellent at manipulating people and that'd be a higher charisma (or ranks in bluff). Me and a friend got into a nerdy argument about weather House had a low charisma or not. We couldn't come to a consensus.

    Min/max'ing Rogues!

Legally weapon finese requires BAB +1 so a human rogue 1 couldn't take it. Now most DMs, myself included, ignore this rule. I'd probably drop weapon focus (dagger) or improved initiative and instead take quick draw. One of the biggest advantages of a character who fights with daggers is the...

    Too Many Monster Manuals?

I own MMII and a member of our group owns MMIII, I've noticed that we use significantly fewer monsters from those books than the core monster manual. I guess this shouild be expected given that the MM covers most of the more traditional creatures and niche's pretty well. That said if they want...

The 14th level PCs have slain their thousands, the 18th level PCs their ten thousands

DMs should definitley recognize what kind of power they want their PCs to have and cap the level appropriately (see this article http://www.thealexandrian.net/creations/misc/d&d-calibrating.html) if at all and either end the game at that level or use something like the 6th level epic rules that...
