Speed Freak

I'm trying to create a character with a ridiculous land speed. A monk would probably be my best bet, but I'm reluctant to play one, because The other class abilities really don't fit the concept. So does anyone have any ideas that could dramatically increase my land speed, possibly a prestige class or class, or Monk variant for more speed less bruce lee?

true, but i'm thinking a little more ridiculous. That'll probably be my fall back plan, but I'm looking for more of a class or variant built specifically around speed, I'm willing to sacrifice just about any other class feature.

BTW, what book is swiftblade in?

A monk's speed is an enhancement bonus, so it doesn't stack with boots or whatever which a speedy character will presumably want to maintain his lead. Apart from those that have already been mentioned, I can't think of any classes that give unnamed speed boosts, unfortunately.

Have you considered looking for speedy races? Vanara (I think that's what they are called) from OA have a base speed of 40 IIRC, but you can probably do better than that.

Vanara have a climb speed. Nezumi have a 40' land speed. Your best bet for race is an ex-Nezumi Dragonborn of Bahamut, for access to the improved speed feat from the Drconomicon.

or alternately figure out what a +10 speed increase would cost to add to a magical item, and just custom-create one with an ungodly speed. I know that under old 3E rules, it was possible to create a monk with something like a 160 land speed or something, using classes, feats, and magical boots, but 3.5 limited a lot of tricks.

Does a barbarian grant a +10 unnamed bonus to speed?

Barbarian X/Sorcerer 1. Learn expeditious retreat and you'll have +40ft speed (I think barbarian is unamed speed boost). Take practiced caster later to increase duration of expeditious retreat. Being able to cast it 4 times a day should be enough with it's minute/level duration.

As you're other level 1 possibly take swift expeditious retreat, can't remember if its 1st or 2nd level.

I'm sure someone else has a better build, but this one will be good in nearly any game, its non-monk and its faster than the monk is (at least when buffed) until higher levels and it doesn't require too much investment in feats/magic items/levels.

Alternativley you could also just go barb 1/sorc 1 and then take whatever else when you level up.

Nezumi psionic/wizard/barbarin/swiftblade or something like that.

Use the trait from UA which grant you +10 speed. Take the feat Speed of thought (psionic) which grant you +10 feet to your base speed everytime you take it, and of course the run feat.

1 psionic
5 wizard
1 barbarin
10 swiftblade

40 base speed + UA trait + barbarin + swiftblade + haste + feats

1 Dodge
3 Mobility
6 Run
9 Speed of thought
12 Speed of thought
15 Speed of thought

40+10+10+20+30+30 = 140 ft
Walk speed: 25km/H
Run speed: 126km/H
BowYa. I think it is legal.
