Peter Schaefer's blog - Undead tidbits.

From his latest blog here: "Back to the game: We fought undead and creepy bats. The three encounters broke down thus: four shadow bats, whose special power was partly nullified by our lantern and low-light vision. Then four zombies and two traps, and then two zombies headed by a creepy rotting...

So what's gold gonna be for?

Hunh... back in those days the prevelent attitude in my games was - once you could afford to buy a keep, you did. Because then you "made it", you were somebody now. Lord somebody in fact. When Test of the Warlords came out we still played it with 2e rules, but that solidfied the breakpoint...

    Pick your "Starter Town"

While I chose Hommlet, I do have a soft spot for Keep on the Borderlands. I can look back and laugh at it now, but I remember when I first started playing D&D I thought the PCs were supposed to kill everyone in the Keep. The players must have razed that thing over a dozen times!

DMG to include a "starter town".

I'm hoping they flesh it out enough that we can see how a town is supposed to tick in 4e. In addition to the usual NPC stating and plot points... - The new economics rules in practice. - PC class/NPC class demographics. - The town militia and how it would react to lawbreakers (eg. unruly PCs)...

From WotC_Logan: "Maybe a Charlie Brown Christmass Tree"

Actually, with the way they seemed to be gearing the game (class-based AC bonuses, much of the characters power resting in the class itself), I was pretty hopeful there'd be a section in the DMG that made it easy to run a no-magic game. But I agree with the latest post it's definitely leaning...

DMG to include a "starter town".

From Christopher Perkins' latest blog... "We're planning to include a fully detailed "starting town" in the 4E DMG. It's a wonderful time-saver for DMs who need a ready-to-play town around which to base a D&D campaign. We tried something similar in the 3rd Edition DMG II with Saltmarsh, and we...

From WotC_Logan: "Maybe a Charlie Brown Christmass Tree"

Actually, the quote was taken from a 20th level Archer from Iron Heroes and was spoken with a smile on his face.

    No More Multiple Attacks?

Also keep in mind the new 4e philosophy of combats of 1 monster per PC. For the "Elties" and Boss monsters which are encountered in fewer numbers, they might be compensated by having broader avenues of attack - more area-based attacks and so on.

    No More Multiple Attacks?

They touched upon this briefly in one of their early Design & Development articles... This is supposed to be an imaginary discussion between players in the future about a 3rd level fighter... “Yeah. I thought about going high Con and using a hammer, but I wanted to start with the chance to...

Anyone getting into the WotC forums outside IE?

I'm having problems in both IE & Firefox on XP SP2. If I'm logged out I can see the forums, but of course can't post. I've cleared the cookies in both and tried re-logging in - nada. I just Database error pages when I try to get at the forums. I've migrated over nearly a week ago and that hasn't...

So what's gold gonna be for?

Exactly. And obviously the higher the level you are, the more this problem is exasperated. High level game balance is dodgy enough at high levels even when you do toe the gold -> magic line...

So what's gold gonna be for?

If it was next to impossible to aquire magic at all, I'd agree. But as an adventurer - magical loot is out there. Sure you can - but what happens when one character spends all his money on magical power while the other spends on it charity? The game's balance is built upon the fact that you...

So what's gold gonna be for?

There are countless things to spend money on other than property - say you want to start your own guild, your own knighthood, spy network, build a church, help the needy in a poor city, start your own merchant company, build a war galleon of your own design... As I said in my previous post, I...

So what's gold gonna be for?

Funny, 1st and 2nd edition D&D seemed to do just fine without having a magic item market. And all you need to do is read this thread if you're looking for suggestions on what to do with that hard earned gold other than spending it on magic. I agree that removing magic entirely from the market...

So what's gold gonna be for?

From what we've heard so far it looks like it will play a smaller role in the overall effectiveness of a PC, but it will still be enough that you still have to factor it in. If there are +6 Wands in the game then obviously there is a notable difference between having it and not. What I'm hoping...

So what's gold gonna be for?

The bottom line is that if you can buy whatever magic you like, then that is all money (in large sums) is ever good for from an adventurer's POV. I don't think it's a bad idea that low level magic could be availble to buy from large wizard guilds in major cities and the like, just keep the mid...

So what's gold gonna be for?

This pretty much sums up my feelings on it as well. I am really curious now to see just how much in the way of magic items WotC does plan on keeping around. With class-based AC bonuses, seemingly high Save Defenses, Bo9S style manuevers, at will and per encounter abilities, traits and so on it...
