The MM clearly says they are guidelines for creating PC versions of the monsters. They are not claimed to be full rules. Do what DMs always have done: use your imagination and make it up! You have as much right to make a PC gnome as anyone, and it will be perfect for your own personal game.

Are there Tiny PC races? If not, it doesn't matter what weapons one would use.

Points of light in a dark world. That about sums it up for me. However, depending how well they revamped the Realms I may be tempted to try it out. I always had an idea for "ruining" the Realms to make it more interesting, so I'm curious to see how far WotC went in that direction.

I do think the female Dragonborn are silly (ditto, male Dragonborn!), but I must say some of the art in the books is amazing. It ranges from somewhat poor or amateurish to really, really good. A few pieces are honestly excellent, IMO. EDIT: I did notice the halflings have more human-like...

Agreed completely. I can't imagine an adult actually coming up with these names and thinking they are okay to print, much less cool-sounding or badass, or whatever. Luckily there's no reason to ever use them in-game, they are just identification terms. Silly ones!

I don't know about Heal as a source, but the rest sounds a lot like the ritual that happens in the movie Conan the Barbarian.

Personally, I'd rather the developers were left alone to design what they truly wanted to create. Instead, thanks to the internet outrages, we seem to be getting half-assed or nerfed versions of some really cool, different ideas (Forgotten Realms revision, etc.) Ah well.

Halflings riding dogs isn't a staple, it's just ridiculous. If it's gone, good riddance!

Badgers and heroic fantasy don't mix. So I'd vote "no." I hear there isn't a badger in the 4E MM, and I'm quite pleased, if that's true.

This is bad? As a player or DM, this is exactly what I'd want. After all, we are the ones playing the game, our characters are just sheets of paper. They won't feel a thrill of victory from coming up with winning tactics like a human will. So you're saying you prefer a die roll or skill...

Defensive much? :) Besides, I don't have to create or post a "genius" town, I am not getting paid by WotC to write content for a major game release. What you're suggesting is silly... it's the old "you can't criticize something unless you can create it better" argument, which holds no water...

I wasn't going to mention it, but since others already have... yes, I think Falcon Crest when I see the name, too. There's no way I could use this at the gaming table. I'd provoke laughter and wisecracks every time it was said aloud. I guess this really was designed for young people who won't...

Too bad Fallcrest doesn't seem interesting or realistic. :) I suppose it serves the purpose of totally generic D&D town for beginners well enough though.
