Stat Generation - your wierd and wacky ways

Wow. Very thourgh. Some of those I have never heard of (the 6X6 method espeically). Others I have used quite a bit (like the 'Organic' method). Thanks everyone for sharing your thoughts and methods. I didn't realize playing cards had become so popular for sta generation! I think I am going...

    Traveller or Star Frontiers?

I loved Traveller back in the day. T20 (the d20 version) wasn't too bad but lacked details on starship combat. Traveller's biggest drawback was some of the math involved (classic Travller's star system creation rules required advanced calculas - that that's just wrong). If you stripped it down...

Stat Generation - your wierd and wacky ways

I'm quite certain people have. There are several on this board that play older editions where 3d6 in order (although the order would have been Str, Int, Wis, Dex, Con, Cha) is very common place. I wouldn't do it myself as it can make some pretty hopeless characters.

Stat Generation - your wierd and wacky ways

I like characters to have some high stats as well. But I also think most characters 'benefit' from having a slightly lower than average stat. If everything is easy nothing is fun seems to be the motto I go by.

    Your Trek?

Especially since Kahn shouldn't have known who the heck Chekov was. Don't get me wrong The Wrath of Kahn is possibly my favourite Trek film only matched by Undiscovered Country (with an even larger plot hole). Final Frontier sucked. Hard. Anyone who likes it must be completely insane...

Stat Generation - your wierd and wacky ways

We've all seen the 4d6 drop lowest, 3d6 straight up, point buys of varying types but what unusual ways have you used to have player generate stats. I am (hopefully) going to be starting a new campaign next week and am thinking about a non-standard way to make stats. One way I am considering...

Who still plays older versions of D&D?

Hey - I was the DM and it was a strict Rules as Written game. The party was 5th level and I haven't seen a poison I would throw at 5th level characters that does 3d6 CON damage. It does show that going by RAW sometimes rose is the only colour you need.

Some interesting news about 4th edition

Oh c'mon Cowpie Zombie - you have to post the thread a couple of times to keep stuff like this going! You can't just drop da bomb, walk away and expect real drama and/or hysterics. Kids today, got no repect for the Art. I miss Bugaboo.

Who still plays older versions of D&D?

I was thinking the exact same thing. But I guess when ya gotta rant ya gotta rant ;) I play 3.5 now, we did a Rules Cyclopedia game a few weeks ago and it was less than exciting (everyone in the group died from food poisoning - yes everyone!). I did, of course, have great fun with the old...

    Jackson's King Kong: 3 Hours.

Is this remake going to take place in the 30's? Kong, to me, is best set in the past (yes I know the original movie was technically set in the present when it was made but Kong should be smashing his way though 1930's New York).

Official Tomb of Horrors 3.5 conversion (merged)

Fixed it for you. I haven't really found a player who genuinely likes this one (or would take a long running PX through it). Really your arguement for no save stuff is just alien to me.

    That sounds somewhat familiar....

    Again with the Undead? OY!

Traditionally yes, always no. I have a "good" lich with the party right now. He is travelling with them for reasons of his own and generally prfers to be left alone (they are on a ship bound for a distant continent). The lich's story is that he became so consumed with finding a solution to a...

    Artist Keith Parkinson passes away

I am stunned to hear this. I had no idea his cancer had come back so suddenly. My favourite artist of the heyday of D&D, I will miss him and his work a great deal.

I don't blame you MerricB. It seems it is some people's job around here to piss in the cornflakes of others.

    Strategy or role-playing game?

Yup, that's how I remember (A)D&D too. Looking back at the old rulebooks and adventures it turns out that it really was that way too! With the amount of rules and sourcebooks out now for 3E I find I am spoiled for choice. I can go as role play heavy or light as I want and still keep (or toss)...
