Item of Value: to pay for expensive spells

I'd prefer an item which could supply the costly material component for any spell. One per spell (or type of component) is just a bit too specific.

    New Class: Mage

So, how is this balanced against the current spell-casters? It seems to be way more powerful than a sorc, at least. It also seems to use the spirit shaman spell casting mechanic, yet with way more spells prepared at any time. I'd switch over to the spirit shaman spells prepared (maxes out at...

    Changing weapon materials !?

Or just a wish. I might allow it more cheaply than that, but as a wish it seems entirely reasonable.

    Cure Minor Wounds 1/Minute

It's obvious that if the item functioned 1/hour, this would not break the game. An item which produced vigor 1/day would heal about the same. So there's some point at which your statement is wrong. Step back and actually examine how useful the item is in game. 1hp, 1/minute? That's...

Races that have too much LA...

Well, you've successfully argued that Savage Species doesn't know what it's talking about. ^_^ Although dwarves are definitely quite strong for an LA 0, at the same time they'd be pitifully weak for an LA +1. I'm not sure people who suggest that they get an LA have actually tried playing an...

    Readying a partial charge

The extra combat option I was referring to is the readying of a charge. Normally, this is impossible, as a charge is a full round action. But the penalty of being restricted to a standard action seems to open up this fairly potent tactical tool. Just to be clear, this isn't what I'm talking...

    Readying a partial charge

If you're restricted to a single standard action during your turn, you can make a "partial charge." The question is, if you're restricted this way, can you use your action to ready a partial charge? It seems to me like this is the RAW, although it seems a bit weird that being restricted this...

Flanking: question about a special case

This is completely wrong in 3.5, which has no facing. Certainly, if you are using the rules for facing, that's probably how you'd do it. But by default, there is no facing, so no backstab.

    Complete Scoundrel Here

Agreed. This sounds like a great idea, and it's easy to adjust the balance by changing the skill point cost. :)

    Brutal Throw too strong?

Well, Your counter-argument might be that it specifies melee weapons, here. Yet a spear is a melee weapon, even if it's got a range increment. It doesn't say anything about making melee/ranged attacks, just using a two-handed melee weapon.

    Brutal Throw too strong?

Changing that to shortspear (which is what I assumed he meant, although I now see that he's doing spear damage) doesn't really change much at all. Same with javelins. A quiver of elhonna/efficiency is probably necessary to explain the massive amount of spears/javelins (It can hold 18/6 of...

    Brutal Throw too strong?

The price on those +1 spears will add up pretty quick... I found that, in actual play, buying multiple magic weapons to throw around is prohibitively expensive. And having the one-use, overpriced javelin of lightning isn't helping your wealth any. Also, some nitpicky thoughts on your build...

    Brutal Throw too strong?

You've got the slight problem that your ranged routine works only once. Ignoring the bloodstone blade, this just isn't that powerful. I built a pretty good fighter/master thrower once using this concept, but the limiting factor is that once you've thrown a weapon, you don't get it back. And...

    Is Wraithstrike the wrong level?

It's definately RAW. But I'd suggest making it a swift action.

    Do magic missiles glow?

Like many of the posters, I let arcane casters choose how to describe their spells. I might veto how a cleric's spells look, however, based on the god who granted them. I'd also let a bard choose how their spell with every casting, while forcing other casters to be consistent with how their...

Tell me about concealment and spells

Your initial terminology was correct. A ray is not considered a "targeted spell." Total concealment definately prevents line of sight, and thus targeted spells in most cases. Although if you can physically touch an invisible creature, that'll let you target them. (Useful for allies.)

    Is the Genesis spell OGC?

Well, where was it from originally? Ah, someone misled you with sloppy terminology, because it's a psionic power, not a spell.

How Would You Change This Feat: Agile Shield Defence

I can't say from looking at it how I feel. But it lets you get a pretty big boost in AC for not that huge a penalty. Now, one thing to consider is that it does tie you to using a shield, and therefore a 1-handed weapon. Hmmm... Which would be the first action of your current turn? As the...

    Sell me on Psionics

    1) Keeping track of spells cast/power points spent isn't too big a deal. But deciding what wizard/cleric spells to prepare each day is definately a hassle, so I'd say psionics is distinctly simpler, system wise. 2)"Psionics is different" sounds like a cool idea, but most people who have tried...

How many spells are in the PHB?

Not to rain on your parade, but I'm pretty sure that you could simply ask a project like PCGEN for the data. There's an xml version of the SRD floating around somewhere too; I think even excel can import that, with a little work.
