    Identifying monsters

It strikes me as a bit weird that, to use a knowledge skill to identify a monster, it gets harder the more HD it has: This is especially silly with templates: it's harder to know the vulnerabilities of a 40HD zombie than a 2HD zombie, even though they're the same. There's also no guidance on...

    Golden Ice (BoED)

But isn't it an exalted feat? I thought the whole point of the book of exalted deeds was that you get these powerful abilities, but you have to live up to extremely high standards or lose them. (And "asking questions later" won't cut it.)

How would you do 3.5e in 160 pages?

Heh, one of the first times I played D&D the DM was using that. It was pretty funny when we fought the terrible monster which is the Dryad. Things like feats and spells can be compacted quite a lot by increasing the number of columns in a page.

    [Gleemax]Another thing not to like.

It's a bit less debatable than that, AFAIK: U.S. Copyright Office - Games I suppose that the CYA lawyers have something to worry about. I just don't get what it is, given the above.

Castles and Crusades for 55 dollars???

I saw a dvd of Rushore priced at 50$ at a bookstore once; turned out it was just mislabeled. Perhaps that's what happened here; it's just mispriced.

    Skill Tricks; good or bad?

I don't understand that attitude at all. Neither reserve feats nor skill tricks are that complicated. Isn't it easier to introduce a coherent system into a game, than a whole bunch of new feats and spells, each of which have different mechanics? If you don't like the way the system was...

    Do Increased Caster Levels Stack?

I think there are some feats in Complete Mage which give an enhancement bonus to CL as part of their benefit. These wouldn't stack with each other.

    Paladin Actions - Appropriate?

So here's the thing about the Paladin's Code, at least how I'd run it: it's there to screw you. That's the whole point of it. There will be times when the Good and the Lawful aspects of it conflict, and one doesn't trump the other. The paladin could have avoided this situation by being more...

    Reforming the grapple mechanic

What is it about grapple checks that you feel take longer than regular attacks?

    Teleknesis: where's the power?

It seems like it would be good to include a tanglefoot bag in any use of violent thrust. ;) Last Breath is another good spell to give the d4 a workout. It's always a good idea, when designing an effect, to consider whether it's really necessary to use multiples of any dice other than d6s.

Tome of Battle: Book of 9 Swords - Things to watch out for?

It's probably best to ban the special weapon ability that's in the book: it's too easy to abuse. There's a 4th level devoted spirit maneuver which looks out of line (it does +8d8 damage, and although the flavor text implies a drawback it has none. It's also probably more powerful than an 8th...

No Save, No SR, No way!

Message is one of the few spells you can cast through a scry spell, however. ^_^

    Question about AOO's ...

The rules assume that normally, you're attempting to avoid attacks. An AoO is drawn by something which distracts or prevents you from doing so. If a character deliberately stops this activity, it's perfectly reasonable for opponents to get AoO on them.

Help: Evil DM sundered my wand :(

Heh, take a look at Craft Wondrous Items, Magic Arms and Armor, and Forge Ring... The section in the DMG is good to point out, however.

Catfolk or Goatfolk - which would make a better "charger"

Catfolk or Goatfolk - which would make a better "charger"

Given that there is a racial feat for catfolk that allows them a full attack at the end of a charge, the choice seems pretty clear to me. :)

    Eldritch Chain and Sneak Attack?

There's a ruling somewhere (FAQ?) that you only get SA on the first attack of a scorching ray. This is pretty much the same situation.

    Beguiler in core books game

I'd think a ring of evasion would be better off in the long run. 2 levels is a huge hit for an arcane caster.

Can an Illusion of Cats Damage a Rat Swarm?

I don't think people quite realize the relative importance of sight/smell for rats. Obviously it isn't necessary to keep this level of realism in a D&D game, but if you're curious, take a look at this page on rat senses. (Imagine being confronted with an illusion consisting only of smell and...
