    Necklace of Tongues

add a limit per day, and you drop the price, plus make it more limited, since that seems to be what is desired... (PS: a different opinion) (awesome does not trump rules. if awesome is not allowed, a slight change is justified, as the rules should have been awesome from the start.) (story...

Monsters to use in a "bear baiting" game?

put the titanic template on a vermin, and have it go against some dire elephants?

Reconcile This - A DM Question

the fighter swinging (and everyone rolling initiative) was the surprise round. nobody can act (unless they have an immediate - and thus interrupting - action) until after the fighter's action is done. had the fighter have won initiative, then the fighter would have swung in the surprise round...

Feat similar to Practiced Spellcaster, but for BAB?

augmentations are explicitly limited by the ML cap, therefore are a subset of ML. increasing ML explicitly allows more augmentation, thus directly affecting the DC of powers which so state in their description. it would be most accurate for me to have said that increasing ML simultaneously...

Feat similar to Practiced Spellcaster, but for BAB?

it can in psionics, but only with powers that specifically state so in their augmentation description.

    Low Level items

skill shards are mentioned in the magic item compendium, but only in one of the treasure lists in the back. they are indeed from the expanded psionics handbook, but due to the crafting transparency rules, can be made with equivalent magic, just as psionics can meet magic item prereqs. armor...

    D&D 3.x 3.5 Modern D&D

it's pretty close. same base concepts after all. just different kinds of levels, with new kinds of advancement.

    monk spinemeld warrior...

i wasn't trying to invalidate the shou qualifications. just meandering off on my own train of thought. might even be able to merge all three ideas into one; but like you said, i'd need to go look up shou.

D&D Family Problems (and the Impenetrability of the Game for Newbies)

interesting thread. i'm going to summate briefly. it has always been at least three books as core. i think that is good enough even today. i think that the options should be fully presented, and marked as optional when appropriate. player options should be in the phb. dm-approval type...

    Attacking from a hidden position

and don't forget that flanking is a melee activity, unless you have a really unusually ability for it at range.

Taking turn DMing for a group that just had a really good DM

interesting! and so thematically appropriate too.

Fighter, Rogue, Blaster, Healer . . . Balanced?

no and no. mechanical game balance is an illusion and a bad idea anyway.

D&D 3.x Time shift; Going back to 3.5!

i see. i was so turned off by the aforementioned, that i never really got around to perusing the mechanics; what i read via others online simply sounded like support for my opinion. furthermore, i don't really need rules for villains. easy as pie to come up with unique and interesting ones. and...

    Low Level items

among other things, my archer caries his bower/fletcher masterwork tools, his spectacles (he is farsighted, can't read up close, without aid), and his calligraphy tools (he is mute due to an oath that has not been fulfilled yet) wrapped up in tubes so he can carry them in a quiver.

D&D 3.x Time shift; Going back to 3.5!

i confess curiosity as to what you found useful in it. i found the philosophies and concepts expressed to be muddled, confused, inaccurate, and misleading; worse than worthless.

    monk spinemeld warrior...

when combining a flurry with offhand attacks from twf, the flurry counts as the "main attack" while the rest are off-hand. and no limb used in the flurry may be used as an off-hand attack. however, if you alternate which spine-arm you hit with in a flurry, and you have at least four attacks...

D&D 3.x Time shift; Going back to 3.5!

horrible book, along with the boed. avoid both of them like the plague. about the worst pair of d&d books ever published. completely clueless.

    D&D 3.x Going back to 3.5 - advice?

in response to the OP... prep time need not take more than 30-60 minutes, and that is for a party of six 18th level character in 3.x. i build an outline, a few branches of possibilities (still just an outline), and use the six-sentence rule for npcs. only important/significant stats are...
