the sting makes a lot more sense if it can also spray poison all around. as it burrows away, it releases a cloud of poison mist with flung droplets of touch poison interspersed. anything near right next to the opening would likely get slammed/stung by the tail/sting as it gyrates around.

if one is playing d&d, the fallen celestial is a core concept. seems they skipped out on the redeemed fiend, however.

There is a psionic power and a psionic item which both do exactly this. Should be fairly easy to convert to a spell. Iirc... the item is from the 3.x Dark Sun material, while the power is from either core or comp-psi.
