Warlord Player's job is to tell other players what to do??

Sure it does, golem's don't die from a big sword - they were never alive. The undead don't die - they were never alive. Devils don't die either, it's Immortal. They can get Destroyed. But there is a difference between Destruction and Death. One is Biological, the other is Physical.

Warlord Player's job is to tell other players what to do??

Because their stat blocks say so? http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dramp/20080125&authentic=true "Large Immortal Humanoid (Devil)" I'm just guessing, but they can't die. Be destroyed, yes - but not die.

Warlord Player's job is to tell other players what to do??

However, Devil's are Immortal. So, let's try this line of thinking. Devil's are immortal, meaning "not subject to death". Assuming that this phrase is true in 4e (and there is no reason to assume otherwise) a Devil who disobeys any command will have eternity to be taught a lesson. So...

If 4th Edition didn't use the "D&D" moniker...

May I make an observation? If this wasn't intended to be "D&D 4e", and as such was marketed by WotC as "Fantasy Game" instead they wouldn't have written the system they have written. I would by the system they have proposed 'cos it looks good. I'm less likely to buy it if it didn't have D&D on...

DID 4E basicly steal the '20 HP kicker' from Hackmaster?

Yup. It's a very simple concept too. It's a little more bookkeeping, but hey ho. Very good article.

DID 4E basicly steal the '20 HP kicker' from Hackmaster?

Actually, the basic concept I'd guess came from the White Dwarf article "How to lose hit points ... and survive!" from issue 15 in 1979. Which is how long people have been arguing over HPs not representing actual damage well. Summary was that you got "Hit Points" which where your 'buffer'...

    D&D 4E 4E Liker - anything you worry about?

Fear: A battle grid is required; Counter: I thought the same about 3.X, and we managed without it Fear: Too much to keep track of? Small, fiddly bonuses are troubling - then again we just about managed to keep track of the modifiers of a Raging, Hasted Barbarian who is the subject of Inspire...

    Monster Design--from a designer's standpoint

I often wonder how we managed between 1974 and 1999 when monsters joined the party. Sarcasm aside, if a monster joins the party it needs to be re-written. When we get the new monster manual we'll see how easy/simple/well that works.

Can someone explain Hunter's Quarry and Warlock's Curse to me?

But that's like - just your opinion man. For the record, the Hero system has an 'Energy Blast' power which more or less says "Spend 5pts to do 1d6 normal damage at range - define it any way you like". I say it's a roleplaying game. Maybe not in your book but I think you are in a minority.

Can someone explain Hunter's Quarry and Warlock's Curse to me?

No, as shown by the HERO system and a number of examples in other games. Well, maybe in D&D - but that's a different discussion. An RPG doesn't need to define the 'fluff' reason for everything to be an RPG or even a good RPG.

Really? A non-core feat in a book I don't own that hasn't been released in the OGL? Solved all my problems.

Trip is an Encounter Power now

Then realism is irrelevant and the argument "Tripping multiple times in a combat will get dull" is perfectly valid.

D&D 3.x 4E Simulationism: Did 3.5E Really Do That Good of a Job?

I can. All the Conan Books, Le Mort D'Arthur, The Worm Ouroboros, Journey into the West and the Water Margin. I guess, however, that all these books come from before D&D was written - so I think some more modern books are needed; so... Magic Kingdom for Sale (Sold), Rats and Gargoyles, the...

D&D 3.x 4E Simulationism: Did 3.5E Really Do That Good of a Job?

Have ... you played Ars Magica? By the by, in a "Class n' Level" game one of the ideas (I guess) is that for an equal amount of XP each class should by roughly equal. Want Casters to be the most powerful class in the game? I have 2 simple houserules that will work for any game, at any time. 1)...

Stats modifiers and +1/2 level. Where does it apply?

Doesn't apply to damage dealt by monsters, we know that much (see the pit fiend for an example) Seems to suggest that it doesn't for all damage. Don't know for sure.
