D&D General The Retro Edition Market

I had a lot of products from past editions but lost all of them when I moved... Besides, when 4e came out, I got out of the hobby altogether. Later, in 2016, I got hooked again because of D&D 5e. It was truly a great edition of the game, IMO the best. The PHB, DMG and MM were such beautiful...

    TSR TSR Setting Inspired Game

    - Old Settings that I'll keep mostly unchanged: Dark Sun (original boxed set), Dragonlance (War of the Lance), Forgotten Realms (Gray Box or 5e lore), Ravenloft, Mystara (pre-Wrath of the Immortals), Eberron (original), Planescape. Yeah, I think that most of the settings were great at the start...

D&D 5E (2014) Those who come from earlier editions, why are you okay with 5E healing (or are you)?

I play since BECMI. Back in the day, healing 1 hp per day of rest was, IMO, an error of design. Even in 3.5 we tried to circumvent the problem buying Wands of Cure Light Wounds. 5e refreshes the PCs every long rest. It's ok. Another problem of previous editions that 5e brilliantly solved.

13th Age Converting 13th Age's Eyes of the Stone Thief to D&D 5E

This book is the system-seller for 13th Age, even better then the Bestiary, and I strongly recommend to try it. Best megadungeon ever.

How have you grown and/or changed as a GM over the years?

More roleplay, less rollplay. Focus on story, not on combat. No power creep. This means milestone advancement. Also, we only do important fights, the lesser ones are skipped entirely. 5e ruleset has helped us greatly to forge this type of game.

D&D 5E (2014) Advice on How to Run a Megadungeon Game

The best megadungeon I know of Is "Eyes of the Stone Thief" for 13th Age. It's incredible. You have to try this one unique thing.

D&D General Level 1-20 and the gulf between aspirations and reality

Many of you missed the truly great High Level adventures: Age of Worms (1-21) Savage Tide (1-21) The Lich Queen's Beloved (18) Die Vecna Die (10-13) Dragon's Crown (Dark Sun, 10-13) Return to the Tomb of Horrors (13-16) Test of the Warlords, Death's Ride, Sabre River (BECMI 15+) Give them a...

D&D General Level 1-20 and the gulf between aspirations and reality

As I am a guy who prefers play in the Lvl 9-13 range, and who actually enjoyed and finished some very high-level campaigns (Age of Worms, Savage Tide) I have to say: the perspective of High Level play is good because it motivates the low-level players to strive for new and strongest powers...

D&D 5E (2014) How Would You Build a Life Cleric

    - Variant Human; 16 Wis, 14 Con, 14 Cha (if she/he's the party face, othervise Str); Feats: Healer (if campaign stops at LVL 5 or less), or Warcaster (of campaign goes up to LVL 13+) or MI Druid with Shillelagh.

D&D General 10 Adventures to Make You a Better DM.

In no particular order: 1) The Whispering Cairn (Age of Worms AP, D&D 3.5) Best starting adventure, in which you learn how to menage a starting base, NPCs and dungeons. IMO better then Keep on the Borderlands, The Sunless Citadel and Lost Mines of Phandelver. 2) There is no Honor (Savage Tide...

    D&D 5E (2014) Best Adventures to Convert?

    1) Age of Worms, Savage Tide (APs from Dungeon Magazine, 3.5) 2) Old BECMI modules. I suggest this series: Lvl 1-3: you can choose between Keep on the Borderlands, Horror on the Hill, Rahasia, The Eye of Traldar Lvl 3-5: Night's Dark Terror Lvl 5-7: The Isle of Dread Lvl 7: Drums on Fire...

    D&D 5E (2014) Epic Level Adventures/Mini Campaigns?

"The razing of Redshore" in Dungeon Magazine offers an example of transition from Lvl 20 to Epic. It's solid. Other good examples are: "The lich Queen's Beloved" (Dungeon Magazine), against the Queen of the Githyanki; the last adventures both from the Age of Worms and Savage Tide Adventure...

    D&D 5E (2014) Bring D&D Immortals to 5e

I would suggest: - In Mystara, mortals can become Immortals (god-like beings), following some Paths to Immortality (Polymath, Paragon, Dynast, Epic Hero) - Their scores as Immortals are comparabile to those of gods in other settings (you can not defeat one under normal circumstances) - The...

D&D General An Ontology of D&D Alignment

Other objections. I.Objectivity. The Alignment system is objective, in fact a subjective one would be equal to a lack of Alignment in the game. II.Mythicality. The game implies that it's a cosmic force. Your idea that cosmic Alignment takes away free Will is simply wrong (for mortals: they are...

D&D General An Ontology of D&D Alignment

A great post! My impression is that you wanted to help us to better understands what Alignment is, by building a system of categories that clarify a number of aspects. In that you were rather successful, for example I gained new insights thanks to you! My first objection: your approach is...

D&D General Which standard classes have you never (or very rarely) seen played? (Edited)

Warlord, because I skipped 4e. Otherwise, the less chosen classes were monks, druids and bards.
