D&D 5E (2014) The Decrease in Desire for Magic in D&D

The idea that a target is amnesiac is a great tool turn the enemy into a monster and let them ravage their allies another offensive head on the battlefield .... they made the power useful in a different way,ie another not actually a limit.

D&D 5E (2014) The Decrease in Desire for Magic in D&D

Yeh that lawful good character is now homicidal against friends but still somehow lawful good with the exact same personality because the DM who does not really know much about the beast decides that is their nature .. SHEESH this definitely screams the DM is a "not fit for gramma" (if you...

D&D 5E (2014) The Decrease in Desire for Magic in D&D

And it is specific cat behavior... ie personality not some abstracted NATURE that says DM gets to roleplay the character or force things that are contrary to the characters personality AND alignment.

D&D 5E (2014) The Decrease in Desire for Magic in D&D

Oh I do not know and neither do you, the character does not lose memories of those friends the spell does not say so .... you are reaching with a hostile agenda, nothing more. The personality of the character does not include attacking friends then neither will the beast.

D&D 5E (2014) The Decrease in Desire for Magic in D&D

Anecdotally, we have two very lovey dovey purr babies that can for the most part get their own food and such so they are pretty independent but still love the attention and visibly seem to miss us extremely when we arent there. LOL I think we have studies about cats and dogs indicating that...

D&D 5E (2014) The Decrease in Desire for Magic in D&D

It does not mention amnesia about who your friends are either which means to me the DM isnt interpreting as much as sabotaging an ability. To be clear I really think the polymorph spell is way too bloody versatile and should be restricted to a specialist with the kinds of limit...

Or even abilities that effectively stall at level 3, but that seems to be what we are offered.

D&D 5E (2014) Merlin and Arthur or Batman and zatana

Perhaps there are exceptions I mean what does a ward against getting dirty do exactly LOL? OK the core of a particular ritual might pretty well defined, but what those effects could be? and design parameters limiting its nature is pretty open, and changing them can be world defining. It is not...

D&D General Replacing 1d20 with 3d6 is nearly pointless

Yes the 5% looking like it would be consistent in impact is illusionary.

D&D 5E (2014) Merlin and Arthur or Batman and zatana

@Haplo781 Except rituals are extremely open ended and can be modified on the fly via skill checks (examples in the DMG2) , shrug just saying 4e did not ==> "I think that we can completely dissolve all magic into balanced game effects."

D&D General Replacing 1d20 with 3d6 is nearly pointless

Me too its huge. hovering near that median is likely more common ie normal distributions happen For me. Basically target DC differences and your attribute bonuses and stuff which are decided on like getting that d4 from a bard or even the OP +5 from shield are more significant compared to the...

D&D 5E (2014) Merlin and Arthur or Batman and zatana

Not sure about Arthur though he did blind enemies he fought with light from Excalibur and kill Dragons and travelled to the "other world" seeking the cauldron of the goddess (later changed to grail) in some of the early stories. Lancelot had the strength of 10 and Gawaines varied by the sunlight...

or restricting it to some soul form from a smaller list (with cosmetic differences, ie you can become or transform someone into a bird - here is generic bird stats, its a bird from past era and recognizable as magical if you want it to seem like a modern crow you make a separate deception check...

D&D 5E (2014) The Decrease in Desire for Magic in D&D

Maybe not you... but notice how Micah wants it to be some limit that makes it harder on the PCs? Sounds like he is planning for the DM to either virtually play the character so he can make it harder or maybe just restrict what that means in some way : for instance that does not let the Dinosaur...
