    D&D 5E (2014) How Many PHB's have you bought?

None are 5e unless you count the Adventurer's Guide from Level Up. But I am unsure about the count I gave a lot of 4e books to nieces and have 2 of each myself and that is 6, but that total is signiricantly more.

D&D 5E (2014) Battlemaster and Superiority Dice are causing martials to suffer.

You might as well say Martial Characters are never allowed to be more versatile even in combat than magical ones instead of coding it.

Taking (high impact) feats first before attribute buffs actually is more optimal as is careful selection of multi-classing shrug.

D&D 5E (2014) Battlemaster and Superiority Dice are causing martials to suffer.

Not caring about and considering others who pay attention to the implications of mechanics NOT a part of the community seems a problem. The mentioned build I heard of recently about how to get virtually if not every skill that is optimizing. The DMGs in 4e were very good at addressing different...

D&D 5E (2014) Battlemaster and Superiority Dice are causing martials to suffer.

Which we may agree is a bit odd.... I think the maneuvers as they stand are underfed. But this seems to be the "if joe gets it by spending a resource then sam cannot do it" assumption. The idea of maneuvers being truly available to any (sans resource) is probably the desire of the OP. Many...

D&D 5E (2014) Battlemaster and Superiority Dice are causing martials to suffer.

Sigh that argument again? Also not based on percentages the fighter was a very popular class your claims are thin air and unless you can give evidence for that shrug it should be taken as you making it up whole hog. LOL you very much cannot say anything approaching it but you will insist on...

D&D 5E (2014) Battlemaster and Superiority Dice are causing martials to suffer.

Not worth much to me which was why I mentioned "anecdote" . The original point was the fighter could be even in battle a ton more versatile without being overpowering, where as diverging on how bad the martial defender role is well that was a side note, (enough so that optimizers say not to...

D&D 5E (2014) Battlemaster and Superiority Dice are causing martials to suffer.

Cool anecdote and It may reach the capability of a level 1 -> 4e defender fighter by 18th level maybe with some limits (although the 4e will likely eventually have multi-marking abilities like battle shouts and possibly self generating temp hit points and ways to do maneuvers like battlemasters...

D&D 5E (2014) Battlemaster and Superiority Dice are causing martials to suffer.

I think perhaps the PDK and Cavalier are so far low end they ought to collapse into the core class... it really just makes the fighter more flexible not really more powerful, isn't that what people perhaps incorrectly claim for the caster? that their flexibility and ridiculous amounts of...

Nods, number 2 has the wow factor which is missing from modelling the guy from the gym.

D&D 5E (2014) (+) So, what have you done to make martials feel better?

I think the shifts in paradigm you are using is different enough to make analysis harder... avoiding level dipping I think is important and not assuming people are ok with removing the multiclassing (but given the traps in multiclassing I can see why some do) and the anything you can do I can do...

D&D 5E (2014) (+) So, what have you done to make martials feel better?

I thought of allowing one to cancel a critical hit by sacrificing the shield (usually a shields straps are what is broken and damaged severely enough it will need repaired) and if the shield is magical it may resist sundering with a saving throw based on their users str ....

D&D 5E (2014) (+) So, what have you done to make martials feel better?

So each oath is a subclass and also core class features to replace some parts of the fighter hmmmm I think it might be possible but I also think tricky is it's name-o. Many but not all of the archetypes/subclasses are really just pre-planned multi-classing by a different name. (4e had some...

D&D 5E (2014) (+) So, what have you done to make martials feel better?

I am considering tandem fighting uses a bonus action.... yes I know that means if you are guiding your beast or squire to make an attack and avoiding them getting explicitly targeted, you won't be using that bonus action to make a two weapon attack. They might be able to give you advantage on...

D&D 5E (2014) (+) So, what have you done to make martials feel better?

No doubt on the other hand looked at from space -> there is this multiclassing system and bringing in some cleric levels or druid ones in theory could be ways of controlling those metrics if the core elements were functional kind of like how many "Paladins" I have seen multi-classing with full...

D&D 5E (2014) (+) So, what have you done to make martials feel better?

If the Eldritch Knight is acceptable model it would be easy but I get the impression the Paladin is a better designed class. Lower amounts of magic is how they started out (you didnt get any till higher els) has been done before but I think the perception of paladins has changed over time and...

D&D 5E (2014) (+) So, what have you done to make martials feel better?

They could have made the ranger a subclass of fighter who got nature magic. Which is basically back to the structure used in 1e

More maneuvers that take an extra-attack or two to do fun buff effects like that
