    D&D 5E (2024) I am so torn [UPDATE: I bought it]

Another way of seeing it - WotC owes me nothing. I owe them nothing. D&D is just something that I used to play.

    Dragonbane Post-Mortem

I have Pulp Cthulhu and also got the Two-Headed Serpent. I have been playing in a Pulp Cthulhu game for a few months with a different group. I don't think it goes far enough in the "superhero" direction to appease Player A. This is someone who thinks 5E characters are too weak.

    D&D 5E (2024) I am so torn [UPDATE: I bought it]

If it makes you feel better, tell yourself what I tell myself - which is what WotC told me: "It's not a new edition." I haven't felt the need to purchase every slightly updated version of the game ... like when the Skills and Powers books came out for AD&D 2E. Or D&D Essentials for 4E. Don't...

    Baldur's Gate 2 + AD&D 2e --- Enhanced Edition Re-Re-Retro-Retrospective

I never played BG1 or 2 but had a lot of experience with 2e at the table. I might be one of the rare DMs who used weapon speed factor - though maybe I was doing it incorrectly. Roll Initiative on a d10. Subtract your Dex modifier if applicable and add your weapon. As a player, I knew my thief...

New Warhammer Old World TTRPG Announced

Would that be Zweihander? I only have the beginner's box, so of course it seems simplified.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

I've only seen one review from someone who had a PDF copy. He didn't get into all the details. I was more referring to the original 5e design principle that monsters are balanced based on "HP damage they can take" and "HP damage they can deal out." Removing stuff like needing silver or magic to...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

I mean, they could just make the monsters more interesting. As it is, HP is really the only quantifiable challenge in 5e.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

    The HP bloat is real.

Pathfinder Announces New Lost Omens Book, Plus Remastered Version of Treasure Vault

Or it could be the transition from the OGL to ORC. Maybe they just don't want to play in the 5e sandbox anymore?

    Dragonbane general thread

That's kinda how it was handled in AD&D2E's non weapon proficiency, IIRC.

Like rolling with disadvantage with every associated skill?

    Dragonbane general thread

The conditions are absolutely essential for Dragonbane. They give roleplaying prompts. They are a form of damage. They are player-driven metacurrency for vital rerolls. Understanding their use is very important in the game, and one of my favorite aspects of the game.

    NOSFERATU - Spoilers

Booing, unfortunately. I think the crowd was expecting a more modern horror movie, like Terrifier or something. I heard people say "well, this is the only horror movie out right now."

    Dragonbane general thread

For us, many in my group balked at the power level in OSR games. In Dragonbane, you can be expected to defeat a troll or giant at a starting power level. In many OSR games, you can die to a pair of goblins. Also, DB doesn't just have 0 HP and you're dead. We played through the boxed set campaign...

    My "Savage" Experience

Yes. I own both boxed sets. It's on the list to consider. If we don't go with Savage for the next game, I might suggest Fabula Ultima. Also considering Age of Sigmar Soulbound.

    My "Savage" Experience

Honestly, I'm not comfortable in most settings beyond fantasy. Sci-fi is a big stretch and it should probably be space-fantasy. I can't think of many successful campaign I've run that haven't been fantasy. I suppose there was one Call of Cthulhu game.

    Dragonbane general thread

I posted this in my Dragonbane Post-Mortem thread, but thought it might be handy to have here... "The main theme I appreciate the most after spending years of wrecking my brain with over-thinking is the shear randomization of choices. It really takes so much of the weight off a DM. More than...
